My daughter has her heart set on a toy breed...probably a havanese. We have found a breeder that BAER, OFA,CERF and Opitgen tests & is willingto provide all certificates. Belle is 4 &has already had 2 litters. Her breeder is ready to retire her to a family home for the $of the spay. Belle was shown and although she has many CH in her pedigree she was "an almost won" except for provincial and canadian titles.

I'm in the rescue world not the breeding world so I dont have much to add except to say YAY!!! for skipping the puppy stage & potty training! I'd take an adult over a pup any day. However I could not imagine someone giving up their dog of 4yrs just because they are done breeding her. I thought good show owners consider their dogs family members 1st & show dogs 2nd. But to each their own right? I mean if you meet her & fall in love then their loss will be your gain right?

Unfortunately, that is part of the "show world" for some. Say a small dog can live up to 16 yrs. or average of 12-14 yrs. If you show or have a breeding program and you keep every dog you show or breed for it's entire life, you probably won't get many years of showing and breeding. Unfortunately many have to let some of their adult dogs go to continue the program. It's not that they do not love them, it is just part of that life. Many don't want more than just a few and to keep all of the until they pass on is just not feasible for the showing and breeding world sometimes. The good ones make sure they are placed in loving homes that will baby them and provide a great life for the rest of their lives.
I agree with EAO76, skipping the puppy stage might be really nice! I have often thought of getting an older boxer when I decide to get another some day. I say go for it!

Thanks for the replies everyone...makes me feel much better about the breeder.

Belle has a litter of beautiful little babies that will not be going to their new homes until they are 10 weeks old. (approx 1 month from now) She will then be spayed and recover at home with the breeder. After she has fully recovered she will be winging her way to HER NEW HOME!!!!!! WITH US!!! We are all very excited.

Not sure how Titan and Kota will be with a little 8 pound ball of white fluff so introductions should be interesting.

Wish us well...will keep everyone updated.
