No grain dog food

In need of some advice, I am curently feeding my 2 dogs, (Dominic 6 month boxer and Smurfy 8 yr. shepard mix) natuer's variety Prairie lamb and oatmeal. They both do good on it but it does, as well as the other prairie flavours, contain alot of grain. So I want to switch them to a no grain food, thats also life stages. I was looking into the nature's variety instinct brand, which is no grain, but I found that it has a high protiene count at 42%. I guess my question is how high is to high for a 6 month old? and any suggestions on a brand that has lower protiene and is all life stages? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, Thanks

I dont know exactly how high is too high, but almost all of the grain free foods i have seen have protein contents in the 40%'s and they say not recommended for dogs under 1 year of age. I have seen a few grain free foods that have lower protein contents (30%'s) and dont say that. Have you searched that specific food on dogfoodanalysis.com? I would go there and look for some grain free foods that dont have a warning about dogs under 1 year of age. If i remember right merrick and canidae both make one that is ok for dogs under 1 year.

I agree with the above. Also I believe Innova's Evo is okay for puppies (or doesn't state that it isn't anyway), and Natural Balance's Limited ingredient line is grain free and protein is lower and it's an all life stages food. I believe Taste of the Wild is also an all life stages food and it's grain free. Orijin makes a puppy formula of their grain free line as well.

thanks for the info, and food suggestions. I will keep looking on dogfood analysis, I didn't realize you could search just grain free products, . As for the high protien I will just make sure that its not recommended for dogs under 1. Then to go out and make sure i can find it, .

I've been feeding my boy Taste Of The Wild since he was 7 months and it's the only food we've been able to get him having consistently solid poop on. It is an all life stages grain-free food. I think the protein is 32%. And it's very very nicely priced.

We have been feeding Zeus the regular orijien since he was about 6-7 months old. The difference between the puppy formula and adult one is very minor. He has done great with it ever since.

nixxon is on taste of the wild also and is around 7 months. we are on our third or fourth 30 pound bag. for a grain free food it's priced very good. my local feed store sells a 30# bag for $43. we were doing the High Prairie Canine Formula and just started with the Wetlands Canine Formula. my shih tzu's stool was very dark and hard and like little pebbles before TOTW and since the switch she poops normal. i've also never had runny stool from my boxer.

my guy is on TOTW high praire and he is doing well less gas , no more eye boggeys soild poo but in canada it is a little bit more around 67.99 for a 30 lb bag , i am have searched everywhere for it and pet valu seems to be the cheapest by a few dollars but i prefer to support the small shop plus it is a 5 min walk away

In Canada almost everything is more expensive than in the US. I paid $92 for the largest bag of Regional Red a little over a month ago.

As for grainless without a high protein count, try the Acana Provincial line. It is made by the same company that makes Origen, but it has lower protein count and is grainless. It is a 5 star on dogfoodanalysis and comes in three varieties. Pacifica (fish), Prairie Harvest (chicken) and Grasslands (Lamb).

I have tries both the Pacifica and Grasslands and had good results. Hendrix can't have chicken, so I can't attest to that one.
