NO Barking??

My baby won't bark. He doesn't bark when someone is at the door or even at the mail man!! I've heard him bark at my daughters barney that sings and dances but won't bark at anything else. I'm glad he doesn't bark like a crazy man but I would like if he barked when someone was at the door. Any suggestions??

Morgan was never a "barker" either.
I, however, am home quite a bit alone with her and wanted her to alert me when someone was pulling in the driveway, opening the door OR knocking.
When someone pulled in OR knocked, I would immediately get kind of excited and look at her with big eyes and say "What's that...what's that...who's there!!!"
She starts to do her wiggle butt and pounce all over the house barking while trying to figure out what she's barking at.
It took about a week, and now she barks and goes to whichever door someone is knocking at.
Unfortunately for me, she would only lick an intruder and want love from them - but her bark is definitely "scary" if you don't know what's behind the door!

my boys were never barkers either. i trained them to bark at certain 'cues' that i determined i wanted them to alert me of.

The only way Joe will bark is for someone to throw his toy. I would hold in in my hand and say speak I would not throw it until he did( I kept saying louder I cant hear you) it took a while but he mastered it. Now when people are at the door he hides we havent mastered that art yet. If you do please tell me how.

Molly use to never bark but just like "apollosdad" did we trained her to bark at certain things. She now barks at Door bells and knocks and when we ask her "Who's there" other than that pure silence. Not that I am complaining though. Even if other dogs bark at her she has no response. I don't mind the silence because I know it is not my girl who has all the dogs barking in the neighbourhood.

Dottie doesn't bark either, and she is 18 mos. She's the whiner of the family.
Snoop barks if anything/anyone he doesn't know, comes near our property. The only other time he barks is at the dog park when he is running with Dottie, and he's barking at her to slow down! (She runs like the wind)

Hey, I would bark at Barney too! Our Joe didn't bark much when he was younger. He is now two and will bark to alert me to certain situations. He actually has several different barks for different situations. Perhaps your baby will bark for you as he gets older.

Markus rarely barked inside. I think it would be a good idea to teach them to bark on command. In the meantime I would enjoy the silence too.

Maggie didn't start barking until she was 9 months old. She would just huff & blow kinda like a cow when she heard someone at the door. Now it's full on "who's at my door, I'm gonna eat you" barking when the doorbell rings...

Roxi never really started barking till she was about 5months and we took her to the vet, and there was a black lab there who was barking at her. It was kinda like the lab taught her to bark. Now she will bark when someone comes in the drive way, or if we are playing, and she doesn't like someone on a bike.. she barks non-stop at them, I think shes scared. Once she figured out how to bark , she never stopped (haha) but I think now she is somewhat bored of it, and only does it when she is scared, or playing.
