hi im new here i have a 7 wk old white boxer male, ive had him now just over a week ive got no problems with house training or anything like that hes a really good boy,the only prob ive got is nightime, hes crying every 2 hrs i let him out to go toilet but he dont always go he can go quite a long time with no mess, hes not once messed in his vari kennel, its just the sleeping ive tried to keep him awake the longest i can manage that for is a hour and half then you got no chance hes falls asleep anywhere he can im not sure that he likes the kennel when he goes to sleep by day i pick him up and put him in it as soon as u put him down hes straight back out of it,hes happy enough to sleep anywhere as long as its not in the kennel, ive bought him a litter pal (a toy with a heartbeat)ive given him one of my jumpers and hes got loads of toys to play with in his kennel, can anyone give me any ideas?this is our first time of owning a pup, thank you

Put the kennel near your bed. When he gets up at night, merely put your hand down so he can smell that you are here. You do not need to coddle the dog or speak to it or comfort it in any way. Simply let him smell that you are there, and ignore the dog. In a few minutes he'll stop whining and go back to sleep. If you give him the attention he wants in the kennel, he'll never sleep in it.

Here is a link for information at Boxerworld on crate training puppies. This may be very helpful to you.

Good luck.

I have a white guy too! Arn't they beautiful! Okay, our dogs sleep in the spare room,(dogs room) when we first got Ozzy I had his crate next to the bed and when he cried a lot at first or wake up in the night or at 430 in the am I would just go and lay on the bed with my hand hanging down the side like Dan said and he would go back to bed. They need to be near someone. They are just babies!

The above post is why I love these forums. Everyone here cares about Boxers, and the first concern is making sure they are ok, the second always seems to be PICTURES. I actually chuckled out loud reading Scorpio's above post. I am still new to the site, but I am getting sooooo addicted!

Cayenne's Dad

We had alot of trouble with Cayenne crying for hours during the night (I couldn't believe that dog could make that much noise). We did some research and found that placing her near the bed at bed level worked very well. After a couple of days we then moved her to the foot of the bed where she could still see and hear us, and eventually out of the room for a couple of days. She still cries but only for a minute. While she stayed in the bedroom we would take her out in the middle of the night, but now she will make it through the night without a word. They may wimper a little but just talk to her and they go right back to sleep.

I have a 6 wk old male and took him to the vet 2 days ago. My wife asked the vet what we could do b/c we would put ours in the kennel at night, then he wakes up about 1 1/2 hrs later and whines and crys until we can't take it and have to let him out. The vet asked if we had agarage and said to put him in the kennel in there each night, let him out in the morning to potty. He said do this for about 5-6 days and then bring him and the kennel back in the house at night. Vet said he will usually howl for about 20 mins or so while in the garage then go to sleep once he realizes no one will let him out. He says once we bring him back into the house, he should only whine alittle then fall back to sleep. He says this shoul work on training the dog to get use to the crate and sleeping thru the night. Has anyone else heard of this? I was alittle reluctant b/c it's still alittle cold here in Mont, but the vet gave us a heat lamp to place near the kennel while he sleeps, along with a few towels and blankets we keep in the kennel with him. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
