I think you could use the same technique without having to send the pup and the crate to the garage. You didn't say where the crate is currently, but I would suggest putting it in the bedroom where the pup can see you, especially considering how young your pup is still. Put him in the crate, if he cries, just dangle your hand in front of the crate or stick your fingers in it just so he knows you're there, DO NOT let him out or coddle him. As your vet said, he has to find out that making noise will not get him out of the crate, no matter what. Yes, it's hard to ignore the crying (and even harder to try to get any sleep!), but I'll bet he will catch on very quickly that he's wasting his energy and crying doesn't work with you.

Best of luck, I think the most important thing is to be strong and consistent, you'll get there!

Oh, and he may wake you up to go potty, take him out and send him back to his bed for the rest of the night. I don't think he can be expected to hold it at only 6 wks.

Thanks for the advise, maybe we can try that again. I tried that the 1st night with him in our bedroom in a smaller cat carrier we have that he fits and he he began to yelp pretty bad even with us in the room and trying to calm him down some, didn't work. Hopefully we can break him of this pretty soon...
