Next stop...CGC??

ok, we have made amazing strides in obedience class with Adam!! I was even able to work OFF LEASH with him in the ring!! WOW!! He's been so good in class that at times i think he's been possessed by aliens! Off leash, he will sit, lay, watch me, wait or stay for a couple of minutes even!!! His "leave it" is improving by leaps! For the most part, he even ignores the rowdy lab (who has snapped at Adam many times).

So....I have been looking at the CGC classes and the requirements on the AKC's website. I have some ?'s tho. In two sections you have to walk the dog past other people and/or dogs. it says that the dog "may show some interest in the strangers but should continue to walk with the handler, without evidence of over-exuberance..."

How could you define over exuberance??

I am truly amazed at Adams progress. As for the CGC, I think he might actually be able to do it very soon!

Don't know about the exuberance, but did want to say congrats to you and Adam on the wonderful progress. You 2 are an inspiration to me!! Keep us posted on the CGC's!! P.S. I have high aspirations of doing that too with my new girl!!

How could you define over exuberance??

It's mostly a matter of "I know it when I see it" but as an evaluator, you're looking for a dog jumping or lunging on people or the test dog, and there should be no pulling on leash or straining to 'visit'.

A dog which is jumping, lunging and straining at his leash will not appear under the handler's control and will not be demonstrating self control.
