we have decided to try raw about a week ago. Im just not sure we are feeding him right. ty is a 75# male, who is fairly active. We have been feeding him hamburg with veggies and yogurt(about 1#) twice aday, 2 chicken thights, some beef liver, and somtimes a bonless piece of chicken breast. Im concerned that im not feeding enought or the right stuff. I dont have acess to alot of the meat i hear about on the forum. Also my products have been coming from a store. Is that ok. Is there a suggestion schedule with what i could feed somewhere, that could help me get started. Please post some suggestions..
It sure is nice always seeing him finish his food now. hes a very picky eater. Wont eat kibble, has walked away from home cooking, but loves his raw. Thank you

It sounds like you are doing okay, though I would skip the veggies. Just not necessary IMO. Give lots of variety and try and approximate what they would get if they ate a whole chicken or rabbit etc,

Good luck!

If you stick to the 80/10/10 rule you will do okay. 80% meat, 10% bone and 10% organs with as much variety as you can do, but of course with slow integration of different protiens until Ty has adjusted. I went through a period where all I had was chicken and pork and one of my guys was getting only mutton due to allergies/issues. As Jan stated skip the veggies they have no place in a dogs diet, you can give eggs, canned mackerel/salmon for a little more variety as well. As for the amount, you'll see when Ty is getting enough or too little by his ribs (whether you can see them or not :)). Rock gets about 1.2 lbs per meal, he weighs in at about 67 and is 14 months. Kirra gets 12 oz per meal, she weighs in at 58 and is 5 1/2 yrs. Now that spring is here and Rock is outside more I will have to up his food as he is starting to thin out with all his running around. Listen to Ty, he'll tell you what he needs and obviously what he likes - RAW food mom :).

Some people might, but probably not most. Some people will buy a whole chicken, keep the chicken breasts themselves and then feed the rest to the dogs. A whole chicken would be a bit much for most dogs. You could feed it over a couple of days. It is usually cheaper to buy chicken legs or hind quarters. :)

do people actually give there dog a whole chicken everyday.

You should feed your dog 2% to 3% of his weight in raw meaty bones per day, depending on their activity level. I feed my guy (65 lbs) about 2 lbs per day total. I will often buy a stewing/roasting chicken ($1.50 or so), cut it in half to make a morning and evening meal.

Look for meat on sale at your local market. You should be able to find lots of things for $1.50/lb or less. Try chicken frames, the ones meant for soup. You can usually get 3 for a dollar. Compared to Origen or other premium kibbles, raw is cheap.
