We went to visit "Mickey" (yes, from Bailey, to Ethan, to Mickey) last night and he's doing great! He's just over 4 weeks and we can't wait to bring him home. Your advice about the blankets is wonderful, I'll be taking 2 when I go next week.

I can't seem to attach pictures to my threads, my files are too big, but I will add the newest to the gallery.

We get to bring the little guy home on the 1st of October and I am so excited! Other than a crate and some toys, any advice on what we need to have? The breeder is feeding the puppies Ol'Roy puppy food, what about that?

Congratulations on your new addition! I don't have much advice but I learned as I went when we bought Scooter home about a year ago! Just go with the flow and everything will be fine!!

Congrats on your new puppy!!!! Here is a tip that helped me when I brought Tyson home. Ask the breeder for a small peice of blanket that the puppies all share. This will help your new pup feel more comfortable when he goes home with you. You can place it in his crate with him or wherever else you feel appropriate. If you decide to change his food, be sure to do it gradually so not to upset his little tummy. :) Good luck and keep us posted! Can't wait to see some pics.

Congratulations!! :) If you get a crate for him, be sure to section it off so that he doesn't have enough space to go potty in it. Also, in my opinion, that dog food is junk! The breeder that I got my puppy from fed them Pedigree puppy (also junk). After doing research on premium dog foods, I (gradually) switched him to Innova Puppy food. If you want to, you can check out the website www.naturapet.com. Whatever you decide, lots of good luck to you!! May you have many years of boxer love & fun!!!!!! :D

Congrats on your new pup! We are anticipating a new arrival some time this fall or winter. I am happy to read the above advice on how to make your puppy's transition easier! I hope it all goes well for you.

Some advice

Let's see ...

When I got Boo Boo, I made several mistakes
so ... here it goes.

First, if you decide to keep him inside, get
a crate and monitor him every TWO hours.

Try not to give him water after 8 pm. That
way, his chances of liquid elimination is reduced.

Don't worry if Mickey doesn't eat very much,
eventually he will.

That's it for now.

Congratulations on your new puppy!!! Boxer pups are the most gorgeous babies ever. You just want to eat them up, little wrinkles and all!!

First, if you decide to keep him inside, get a crate and monitor him every TWO hours.

Sorry Calvin but I beg to differ on this one (every pup is different I know) but as a general rule, which I am sure most of you would agree with, every time your puppy finishes playing, sleeping and eating, take them to do their business!

If Baxter and Jake are playing (their ritual is playing at our feet every night) Jake is guaranteed to pee as soon as they stopsmashicon ! Also AS SOON as he wakes from sleeping SAME THING! You will get used to it. Have fun:)!

Feeding is totally up to you however, some (not all) Breeders use bad quality food because having so many dogs to feed, it is cheaper for them.

I would either go onto a better brand ( I personally do not know what this brand is like but others here seem to think it is quite average) or consider maybe feeding a raw diet. I started Jake on a BARF diet only 1 week ago at 9 weeks and he LOVES it! He rips into the bones and vegies and then wants Baxter's!!!!! The younger the better! Whatever you choose good luck and I hope you enjoy your beautiful baby.

Monitoring the puppy

Hello Michelle,

The two hours is just a general rule. I noticed
that when I first got Boo Boo, he'll just soil
whenever he wants to until both my wife and I
take him outside consistently every few hours
and then Boo Boo eventually gets it.

As for playing hard, Boo Boo shows no correlation
with soiling and playing real hard. Although,
Boo Boo does eliminate on command. So, that's
a good thing.

Ol' ROy

fROM WHAT i HAVE LEARNED HERE on the boards Ol' ROy is trash food as the vet explained to me when I tried to change Ash's food and he refused to eat..."If you give a child candy all its life then actually try to give him something healthy what do you think he will choose. My advice take a bag of good quality food and ask the breeder to start weening him of Ol' Roy the sooner the better.

Thanks for the great advice! I'll take some food when I go next week. I had planned on the every two hour thing, and after he eats and plays. What about during the night? Is he going to need me to be up with him every two hours? That's going to be hard to do, I work during the day. Our son (18 yrs old) will be playing with Mickey during the day while I'm at work, so he won't be left all alone during the day. When can he be left alone all day? We are planning to crate him, I just hate the thought of abusing him by keeping him in it too long.
