Fiona is my first Boxer! So far, we are absolutely in love and I have no doubt that there will be more Boxers in our life. She's got such a fun, loving personality!!

Anyway, my question is that I've noticed when she sits, she never seems to sit straight on her haunches. She always sits sideways on her hip. I've never had a dog do that before. Is it something I should worry about? My brother was her breeder and there are no Hip Dysplasia problems with either her parents or grandparents.

Maybe it's normal for her, but I'd just like some feedback.

Thanks!

My Zeus never sat in a normal sit position. He always sat on a hip. He never ran normally like his syblings, movement was always restricted. After he grew to be about a year and a half old a half sybling collided into him full force causing more problems. He had x-rays of hips, legs, pelvis area just to make sure there were no broken bones or anything out of joint. Knees were checked and all was good there. After the vets thinking he had muscle sprain and maybe ligament and tendon pulls, he was on rest for months with not much improvement. Back to the vet again for more x-rays and they found spondylosis which is a spinal condition. It can be hereditary and it can be a result from trama. I was also told that when a pup the mother could have injured him, if she had tried to pick him up to move him.

All of the rest of my gang have always sat in a normal sit position, all but Zeus.

Hopefully you don`t have anything to worry about but if you see that his running movement is not up to par, think about having an x-ray made.

If your puppy is just a few months old it may just be a puppy thing. They are ackward when young.

My first boxer, Lady always sat on her haunches. She sat like a lady. But the boxer I have now sits on her hip. Definately not lady-like! When she sits everything is exposed! My hubby calls it porno-puppy!!bookicon But seriously, she has no problems with her hips or running, its just the way she sits, makes her special! If you are really concerned, next time you are at the vets, mention how your pup sits, and get the vets' feedback.
Enjoy your new pup and welcome to the wonderful world of boxers!

When my katie sits, she actually squats, not quite with her butt on the floor, then if she thinks she is gonna be there for a little while she will shift to her hip. kinda ladylike pose. None of my vets thought this was odd. But, if you are going anyhow, i would just check. Good luck!

Seems to be a normal sitting position for some boxers. My 8 month old female use to sit like that a few months ago and still does it from time to time.

When Dakota was a babe she sat like that all the time too...our family laughed about it cause she was NEVER lady like, it all showed LOL. As she got older she sat more proper and turned into a beautiful little lady!!

Crosby is about 11 months and he has always sat on his hip, it is quite comical. When he was younger he used to lie flat on his stomache with his back legs out straight behind him a bit like a frog, this of course got many more laughs but unfortunately he doesn't do the 'frogs leg' thing anymore. I think it is a boxer thing as he doesn't have any problems and the vet says he is very health.

Thanks for the Info!

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and comments. She runs fine! As a matter of fact, I've never had a dog that has ever run quite so "all out" as Fiona does! I'm taking her to the vet for another round of her boosters, so I'll mention it just in case.

Nice to know though that she's not alone in her "open" posture!
