Hi All. I am a new Mom. Truly new. I have never even had a dog before, always cats. I got my baby for Valentines Day and I love her soooo much. Her middle name is Kudzu. For those of you who do not know, Kudzu is a plant that totally takes over everything around it and Toni has definately taken over our hearts.
She is so cute, but she has an attitude. When she does not get her way, she growls and barks. She is 14 weeks old and has learned sit. Unfortunately I have to be out of the house during the day and only have evenings to work with her. She can learn fast, just choses not to. She knows to go outside to potty, but still has accidents. I have been reading your suggestions and am learning alot. My biggest problem is her jumping on us. We have been stern, tried rewards, tried ignoring her, all to no avail. She is just so excited to see us that she goes "Boxer Crazy". She can turn around completely in mid air. She also bites (teething bites), but we are working on that by putting her down and ignoring her and giving her chew toys. She is trying but she forgets. Any other suggestions would be sooooo appreciated. Thanks all.

Welcome to BW!!!

The biggest thing on the jumping is to ignore Toni when she is jumping on you. Don't correct her in anyway, just stand there like a tree. As soon as she sits or stands at your feet praise, praise, praise.

Thanks, I will start that this evening. I'll let you know how it goes. I feel so bad right now because before I can let her in the house to get her love I have to change out of my work clothes and she knows I am in the house and is crying at the back door.

Jumping.

Thanks for the help and to MOBRIAN, I tried the ignoring last night and id did help. I just stood there and after five or six jumps she sat down and looked at me with that sad look. I then petted her telling her what a good girl she was. The next time she did not jump as many times before she sat. I will work on it real hard this weekend as I will be home with her. I know she is a fast learner so maybe we can get it mostly licked this by Monday. Thanks again.

Hi Toni'smom! I am new to the boards too and also new to having a dog. I have only had cats too! I love my baby boxer!! But, I am experiencing the very same things. Lambeau can sit, and knows to go outside, but he STILL has accidents in the house. Sometimes those accidents occur AT the door b/c he makes no noise at all to go out. If we take our eyes off him for a second and he gets to the door, he will just go right there. He also bites and we are trying, trying to break him of biting us. I know biting is normal for a teething puppy to some extent. We start our first puppy class tomorrow, which I hope will help some of our issues. Good luck with your new baby. Glad to see we are going through the same things!!

Don't worry at all! You have a perfectly NORMAL boxer puppy! We are still working on jumping with Sasha who just turned 1...however we have never tried the ignoring thing!! Will have to give that a try!! Good luck with everything!

Ignore, ignore, ignore

Definitely try the ignoring. It does work. Toni has improved 95%. Toni now comes up to me and sits down, turning her head sideways as if to say, are you going to pet me. She does still forget, but when she does we just stand totally still and after a jump or two, she will sit and wait for her love and praise. We are now on to "no bites". Any hints on that would be greatly appreciated.

Hello and welcome. This all sounds like typical puppy behaviour but i do agree standing still and ignoring them is the best way! I'm having a bit of a problem at the moment with my boxer chewing my neighbours plants over the fence. I'm sure she's not impressed with him as cute as he is!
