new boxer mom

Hi Toni's Mom - I too am a new owner of a boxer, however, I do have another dog - a wonderful Pekingese. My Lexi also loves to jump when I get home from work. My husband works from home, therefore, Lexi is never alone, plus she has Rocky, my Pekingese, and she still jumps when I come home. I think boxers are just very loving and do anything to get your attention. I am practicing the "tree" method and this seems to be working. However, it doesn't happen immediately. It gets better with time.

Good Luck and keep us posted on your progress.

2 Boxers and still the same problems

We have 2 boxers Buster is almost 3 and Macy is almost 1. We have almost broke both of them of jumping on people but there are still a few people that they are just to excited to see. We have always just said "no" and push them down to pet them and that seems to work except for with the people who get them to wound up. As far as the bitting goes we started when they were babies giving them a raw hide bone which our vet reccomended whenever they started chewing on anything we tell them no and give them there bone and that solved the problem pretty quick. I think having 2 of them they chew on each other (ha,ha) enough they don't need to chew on us. I hope this helps.

Have to brag on my Baby (A little long)

Hey Everyone. Thanks for all the replies. Just have to brag on my Baby. She now has sit, down and no jump down. Sometimes she forgets the no jump, but she only jumps once, then sits immediately for her loves and hugs. I used the ignoring. fiestaicon We are making progress in the no bites. Not there yet, but getting closer. She loves to jump up in my lap when I sit down in my chair. This weekend I actually got her to settle down and lay in my lap while I petted her. Everytime she would start biting I would give her the no bite command three times and when she continued I told her that is it you don't mind we don't love and I would put her down on the floor and refuse to let her back in the chair for 5 minutes. After a couple of times she decided she liked the petting more than the biting and she settled down. fiestaicon We worked on it all weekend and although it still takes two to three five minute time outs, she is doing much better. Oh yeah - she learned the "down" command in half a day Saturday. Really impressed her daddy on Monday morning when he saw her do it the first time. (He was out of town over the weekend and missed the training)partyicon partyicon partyicon

Welcome to BW! You've been given great advice so far - I'm glad to see that it is working. This is a great resource for your questions...good luck! :) Mason, my 3 1/2 year old fawn male, was a tough pup too - hang in there, it'll get better!
