Boxer Pal
Hi everyone. I've been visiting here for a long time, but finally decided to become a member.

My family has been boxer crazy forever. In the last 25 years we've had 7 boxers in all. My better half also had them as a child. We've had 3 males over time, (all named Mugs, it's a quirk with my better half) and 4 females. One fawn, two brindles and 4 whites. Two of the white females were deaf.

Currently we have one of the white deaf females, Shadow Dancer, and a very large (100 lbs) brindle male, Mugs (what else?). Shadow Dancer is not only deaf, she suffers (or we suffer?) with obcessive compulsive disorder. She chases shadows, and reflections most all of the time. At first it was terribly destructive, but we now have her on a prescribed med that seems to calm her slightly.

All but two of our dogs were rescues. All had some pretty sorry stories. And all of them took over our hearts and even the crankiest boxers became lovie babies. We often see the local boxer rescue lady, and she thinks we're very brave taking on our latest deaf female. No, we're just crazy. Crazy about boxers, and we probably have lost a few brain cells from being knocked over during Shadow's little dance.

Welcome to Boxerworld!! I am so glad you decided to join us and introduce yourself. It sounds like you have had a life of Boxer love. Please post your stories and we do love pictures. BTW I love the names you have picked for them. Feel free to join our chat room some evening, you can talk about your boxers in there and get to know some of the people on here a bit more. Looking forward to reading your posts. I am very interested as to how you had Shadow diagnosed as OCD, is this an actual diagnosis and what meds does she take?

Thanks for the nice welcomes. I will definitely get some photos up. I have some doosies. About Shadow's OCD, I first came up with the idea, and our vet had to agree, so I suppose she was diagnosed. She's on amitriptilyne, has been for about 2 years now. Most people still find her outrageously hyper, but compared to what she was, she's now a dream. She still will zero in on something, and the rest of the world no longer exists. I have a nephew who is very similar, which helped me understand what she was doing.

Our male just had a vet appt. today. He's hypothyroid. Blood work still needs to come back, but the vet was pretty certain. It's what I had thought too. It's good to know it's something easily treatable.

Yes, I would like to check out the chat. Thanks for the invite. Just love boxer stories. I guess we're all much the same.
