New Companion for my Furbaby??

What breeds are complimentary to boxers? I mean, naturally, other boxers are good...

But I moved, and no longer have my roomate's doggie around. My baby Capone has always been with her (my roomate's black lab). But now he's all alone and I am worried he's not happy about it. He looks for her, and though he loves being the new center of attention, he is seriously sad sometimes. I would really like to get a miniature bulldog, but I don't know. If all you boxer fans out there could give me some ideas, it would really help.

Boston Terriers are usually good playmates besides other boxers.. Bulldogs too.

I know where you are coming from. I think my Garvin is lonely, even though I am here most of the time as I have been working from home. Next year I will be working at an office again so I feel bad for him, I think they get much closer to another fur friend than to a human.

I would love another Boxer but I know we don't walk Garvin enough so I think a not so energetic dog would be better.

I've also heard Boston Terriers and Bulldogs go well with Boxers but neither of those breeds are available to adopt as mature dogs (in our area, that is. Seems to be a lot in rescue in the USA though). I thought about a Pug too, but it seems people with smaller dogs tend to seperate the dogs when they are home alone. I think that would be even worse for Garvin.

I am interested to know how people who have small dogs manage things - by seperating or just letting them stay together. Is it really dangerous to leave a big and small dog together all day if they get along well???

Why not another boxer? Two boxers use each other's energy and dont need quite as much walking as only-child boxers do. I can honestly say that the BEST thing i have ever done is get Radar - him and Tati have so much fun together! They sleep draped on top of each other and love to snuggle together (my gallery has proof of that).

Personally i'd avoid a not-so-energetic dog with a boxer - if one wants to play all the time and the otehr one doesn't, they might just get on each other's nerves. But that's just my argument to DH when i wanted to get Radar So it doesn't hold much weight.

Oh I really want another Boxer, but I'm going to wait till Rogue is older (I couldn't handle twins!!). I would like a little dog though & I don't think that Rogue would be bothered, she would just want to play no matter what. :D

Bulldogs and boxers go great together. We had Bruno, our English Bulldog for three years before adopting Belle, our Boxer, and they get along great.
Not sure what you mean by a miniture bulldog - I don't think that exists. The French Bulldogs are smaller, but don't look much like English Bulldogs. In getting Belle, my only consideration was that I wanted a dog that could "hold its own" with Bruno. He tends to play pretty rough, but Belle can out-manuever him, so they're a good match.

My Jenny is a mixed breed (border collie, lab, beagle) and weighs in at 45lbs (Basil is 75lbs). They are a perfect match. I was worried that the weight difference would be too much for Jenny. I've always had good experience with lab mixes and boxers...maybe a smaller lab mix rescue would be good with your baby? Jenny has less energy than Basil but it's actually helped mellow him out. My neighbor has 9 chihuahuas and one wierd medium size dog. My boxer gets along great with most of them. (There is one tiny chihuahua that is satan incarnate.)

When one of the little dogs had pups I was a little worried b/c he had never been around pups. And at that time he killed rabbits and moles and little creatures. I was apprehensive but I stayed with him the whole time around the puppies. Would you believe that he helped bathe them and played with them? It was a sight to see. And he would walk so carefully around them to make sure he wasn't stepping on any of them.

Beau is great with my miniature dachshund. Bailey lets him know if he's getting too rough. Bailey was the laziest dog I'd ever seen before I got Beau. He'd stay in bed for about 18 hours per day. Now, he and Beau play about 18 hours per day! I think Beau is good for him. It keeps him in shape. My boys may be polar opposites, but they are the best of friends! I say all this because you are thinking about getting a smaller dog. In my opinion, that would be great!

I didn't think they existed either!! I've been an english bulldog owner before, and I saw a gal at my apartment complex walking one. I asked her how her baby ended up so small, and she told me about minis. I went online and discovered that you have to be careful! Some ppl are breeding mixes to produce smaller sized bulldogs, but it's not the *true* mini. I don't know how they do it...
They are very expensive, which is what makes me hesitate to spring for one. I have to make sure my boxer is a happy boy!
