New Car

Right now 'm driving an 06 Pontiac G6, and have had it in the shop 7 times... My warranty is up in 4,500 miles and I'm thinking I should run as fast away as possible from this car. The brakes are HORRIBLE, they can never get the rotors right, and the latest time I brought it in they told me they felt no problem?!?! Arrrrgggggg, it's doing the same thing it did the other 5 times you fixed them!!!! My power streering column went on it, and earlier this week they replaced the intermediate shaft (also related to the power steering). I'm having a loud "mystery" rattling noise coming from the engine occassionally (like a couple times a month), which of course never has any issues when I bring it to them... I'm also having a minor electrical issue with it, the passenger side window is now not controllable from the driver's side, but ONLY when the passenger has put the window down (weird!?!). So now I am seriously considering trading it in. Anyone have similar issues with a G6??

Also anyone have any good suggestions for a reliable car? I'm leaning towards an Accord (which was what I was considering when I got the G6, now I'm kicking myself!!), possibly the Camry, but I like the look of the Accord better (although clearly from past experience this will not play a huge factor in my decision!!!).

I have always owned Honda's and absolutely love them. My first car was a Civic which I had for 5 years and only had to replace the battery and brakes. Now I drive an Element and LOVE IT! Honda's really are the best cars in my opinion and will probably never drive anything else. good luck!

I know that both Honda's and Toyota's are very good reliable cars. They both hold their value than any other model too!!

If your already having problems with a 2006 car then maybe trading it in would be a good idea. Go shopping at the end of the month, thier more willing to give you a better deal so they can meet thier quota's (sp?)

I can care less about cars, since I have owned either 4 door trucks or SUV's, BUT if I do get a car it would definetely be a Honda or Toyota.

Good luck finding one that will work for you. Brands of cars are so subjectable. I just recently bought a 2008 Mustang after having such tremendous luck with my 1997 Thunderbird. It has 110,000 miles and still has the original exhaust system! I've never had to put any money in it except for the things that we all have to replace - tires, brakes etc. I do agree with the others, Toyota's are notoriously reliable cars and seem to last forever.

Very nice!!! I think maybe I feel a mid life crisis coming on (so what if I'm only 28 )!! DH has wanted one for sooooo long, but he can't really complain because he just got a brand new F150 last year . If we weren't planning on having kids I would totally be looking at a Mustang!!!

I love your car! My family has a long history with Mustangs. My dad had a 1971 and my aunt and uncle (siblings) shared a 1965. My dad fully restored it for my brother who totaled it a few months later. My uncle (above mentioned aunt's husband) has 2 1966 Mustangs (one yellow fastback and one white convertible). He is restoring a 1966 fastback for my cousin who will be 16 in November. So we all have a love for them. The new ones look more like the 60s models than any of the others so when I saw the new body style for the first time I was dying to have one. If it weren't for the pups, I'd probably have one. I can't see taking the boys for long trips in a Mustang. Oh, well...

It is hard to go wrong with a Honda, IMO. I have an Accord wagon now and I love it. They do hold their value well too. We are big on that factor because we don't keep our cars long before selling them and getting something else. I personally would never own another Ford or Chevy GMC due to the resale factor and repair issues. I like to go with something reliable and our Nissan truck, Honda, and MINI Cooper have not let us down. Good luck!

Definately get rid of it! This is only the beginning, I speak from experience. In 2002, I bought a brand new Grand Am GT, right off the showroom floor with 11 miles on the odometer. It was fine for about 8 months and the next thing you know, it is in the garage every other week. The problems you describe are exactly how my car went. We took GM to court and they deemed the car a lemon. We accepted a settlement for it which included a warranty for as long as we owned the car. By this point it had already had all new parts in the front end. It ended up being so much stress and inconvenience that we got rid of it. It was mentioned at one time that the car was welded together crooked or something like that and it was basically ripping itself apart. All I know is that it was a headache.

Now I have a 2000 VW Jetta TDI (diesel) and love it. I have had it now for almost 3 years. Before this car, I was always wanting something else, what I had wasn't good enough. Someone just said to me the other day that I am overdue for a new car (based on my previous history) and I proudly said that I love my car and not getting anything else. Now I will say, that in the future, I may get a new one but they redesigned the diesel engine this year and they aren't even in production yet so when they get the kinks worked out, that is a possibility.

I suggest looking at German cars. They are ahead of American safety and are really nice cars. I can see myself driving a VW for the rest of my life.

I've never owned/driven a Honda, however my DH and I are big VW fans. Between the two of us - we've owned six of them (over the years - not all at once!). We currently own a 2000 Golf TDI and other than general maintenence, we've never had any major problems. Also, even though it's seven years old, it STILL gets 50 mpg. DH is getting tired of it and it's getting close to 100K miles, so he wants a new car. He's decided to wait for the new VW Tiguan to hit the US - so that will be #7 Good luck in your search for your new, reliable ride!
