New boxer owner

Hi my name is Erick,

I have owned several types of dogs as a child and recently i ended up adopting a puppy that my dad found roaming in the streets. The little guy was very thin, I wasnt even sure what type of dog he was at first because i had never seen a brindle colored dog before.
But after much research and comparing pictures etc im 90% sure he is a boxer. I dont know his age but im guessing 3-4 months old since he appears to still have his puppy teeth.
when we first got him the little guy was at 15lbs, and apprently had a lot of worms, since they starting coming out like crazy after i took him for vaccinations. Its been a month now and hes now at 18.4lbs hes really sweet with my kids and family, very fast learning thought i still cant get his potty training done.

Iv done a ton of research on his breed and similiar ones just in case since i got him and recently i found this place as i was looking for yet more info on this breed, and maybe hints and tips for more trainning, and maybe insight from other peoples experiences.
Im currently trying everything, the clicker, stuff from dog trainning videos on youtube and even stuff from the cesar millan videos since a friend let me borrow them.

Also i said 90% sure he is a boxer because he has the brindle color, very calm temperament(he takes a lot of abuse from 3 year olds that visit my house and doesnt seem to ever mind), but his nose isnt very boxy infact his snout is almost pit like so maybe he is mixed or i just dont know what a boxer puppy is supposed to look like.

Perhaps later i can get peoples opinion, maybe he is 100% boxer, im just not sure.

Welcome to BW from Dutch Country and thank you for keeping him and not putting him in a shelter! Kudos!!

One suggestion though: don't watch the Cesar Videos, or at least don't use ANY of the techniques he uses on your pup. Stick with your clicker training, it's a great positive way to train. Cesar uses force, fear and dominance methods......not good with a people loving breed like a boxer, or even a mix of boxer or pittie. Use positive reinforcement training and teach your pup that positive things happen when he does good behavior. When he does bad behavior, teach him what to do instead. No disciplining of the physical kind. You want the dog to do things for you cause it makes you happy.....not Not do things in fear of being punished.

Can't wait to see pictures! There are many breeds that are brindled, so post a pic so we can see the baby you saved!!!

Well I dont use any force on him, the only suggestions that i have taken and used from cesar was how to teach the dog boundarys asap by claiming certain parts of the house, and its worked great, i can let him roam and he wont go into the kitchen or the kids rooms, just my room and the living room.

for clicker hes learned and practices every day for a few mins, sit, heel, down, rollover, speak(bark), wait, leave it. he knows them all but gets a lil stubborn at times.

what i cant seem to get him to do is to stop peeing in the house but im thinking he just cant hold his bladder yet but i take him out all the time.Strangely he wont go and will warn when in his pen but not while roaming the house.

From the pics, he appears to be a mix. Could be a pit/boxer mix, as the body build is similar. The brindling is very pit bull or bull dog looking. Though boxers can be beautifully brindled, I have not seen the "striping" like his on a boxer (but often on other bully breeds) and could be wrong. The muzzle is long and thick, which is why I think pit breed in the mix. Now, pit bull encompasses many breeds.....and personally think they all are very awesome! I have a pit/boxer and he looks more pit than boxer - tan with short muzzle and mask. He is absolutely the best dog ever!!! Even with his issues. I also think any boxer mixed with any of the bully/pit breeds makes an awesome companion. You get the best of both breeds and very, extremely loyal to their people.

Nonetheless, mix or not, what a brilliantly lovely looking boy!!!!

Welcome to BW! What a good looking puppy! I agree with Lily that he seems to be mixed with pit and his brindle looks like a reverse brindle on a Boxer (fawn striping on black), so he may be a Pit/Boxer mix because of the nose. Smart mix with good temperament. But with smarts come stubbornness! It will take lots of patience and lots of very positive reinforcement. Boxers aim to please. Use your crate wisely - that is a safe haven for them as well as a place for "time out". For my Boxer when I tell them "no" or "leave it" I give them something they CAN have as a replacement for what they CANNOT have.

Both Boxer and Pit are very lean and muscular breeds so they needs tons of exercise. Boxers when they get bored can tend to "find" things for entertainment - like your couch, door corners, that favorite shoe....a tired Boxer is a well-behaved Boxer! :)
