hello everyone, i picked up our new baby girl harley up a week and a half ago, now 9 weeks old. when we got her i saw she had a small lump on her back, well the breeder asured me that it was from her first set of puppy shots that may have gotten infected , she also told me that it should go away in a few days, she even gave me papers to prove that she took her back to the vet the day before we got her to get it checked out. well i took her to my vet for her next set of shots and he said the same thing and also put her on some antibiotics and said it could take as long as a few months to go away. he also drained some fluid out of it to. he said that if it dosent go away by then we could get it removed. has anyone ever had this happen to there baby? also how long did it take and should i get a 2nd. opp. i am so scared that it is somthing bad, and also have a gut feeling on not wanting to wait a few months. we love her so much she is our first fur baby, fawn with a black mask. shes my little angel. any advice would really help out. thanks so much everyone

I have heard of dogs getting a lump where they had a shot. If it would make you feel better I would definetely get a 2nd opinion. I have had to in the past and it is the best thing I ever did. This time when you go to the vet dont tell him what you suspect let him or her tell you what they think first and then I would bring up if it could be from a shot.

My dogs both get it all the time.. its is kinda firm right where they get the shot. IT is called accito (sp) I learned about it in vet school. It is very common and usualy does take a few weeks to go away.. mine took about a month on mine. Im not saying its definetly that but that is a possibility. I wouldnt worry about it unless it doesnt go away after a month or grows in size. GL

I freaked out when this happened to Willis a few months ago. It did prove to be from the shots, and it took well over a month to go away... but it did go away on it's own. Just keep checking it, as long as it's getting smaller and not bigger, I wouldn't worry too much. If it doesn't start to go down after a few weeks, would start being concerned about it. Don't worry, this is the first in a long line of puppy health panic attacks :D You get used to them after a while. Let us know how it goes!

The same thing happened to Jigs when he got his rabies shot. I freaked. Lumps scare me to death. The vet checked him and said it was from his shot. She said it could take several months to clear up but it only took a couple of weeks. Hang in there and keep an eye on it. If it changes, run don't walk, to the vet. I am very careful about lumps since we lost Hannah to lymphoma.

This happens to our boxers when they get shots too. The longest I have seen theirs last is a about a month. I would agree with all the above, as long as you are monitoring it, it should be fine. Congrats on your new furbaby!
