Boxer Pal
I got my first puppy at 10 weeks old, when I was 18. She's a purebred golden retriever and is now fat and happy at 6 years old and living with my mom and sisters. I couldn't take her with me when I first moved out and now that I have room in my life and the time to care for a dog responsibly while living on my own, there's no way my family would ever let me take her away! I'm 24 years old now and have been thinking about adopting a puppy for a while now but my decision was made for me about six weeks ago...

My dad and stepmother foster border collies and border collie mixes. They got a new little girl around three months ago, and while they usually have their new fosters fixed as soon as possible, she was sick and had to wait on being spayed until she got better. While we were waiting, we discovered that she was pregnant! She gave birth to ELEVEN adorable puppies (all of whom survived and are now chubby, healthy and happy) on June 11th, and while we don't know exactly who Daddy was, most of the puppies have distinctly boxer-like traits. The one I chose to adopt in particular looks and behaves exactly like a boxer baby and nothing like a border collie.

I've been bonding with her and holding her since she was only a few days old and as a result I am already unbearably attached to her. I named her Vela and took her (and one of her brothers - to help with the transition) home for the first time on Sunday, just a few days after her six-week birthday. She's been staying at my house every night, and during the day I bring her to play with her littermates at my dad's house, which is right down the street from where I work. It's a great situation because she is slowly getting used to being away from her brothers and sisters at night, while still getting the bonding and learning time with the other pups all day.

She has already learned how to sit, loves to play tug-of-war, is close to being housebroken, and follows me everywhere. She is not a purebred boxer but has already shown so many traits of a boxer that I know I am going to have to train her as one. The only other dog I've trained is my golden retriever and I am just starting to learn how different boxer puppies are! I found this forum and I'm excited about being able to learn the specifics of training a boxer from knowledgeable boxer owners. I just want to do the best job possible with her, and she is already my heart!
