Neutering and its effects?

I've been thinking about getting Thor done, but I dont want a fat lazy dog. Does that happen to boxers as much? I know my Rott got pretty lazy... which led to an even larger dog...

Thor's a little over a year now, and I must admit I didn't put as much time/effort into training when he was younger as I should have, (I am now though! Well..trying) Anyway, should I just get it over with already? What are the pro's and con's?

Dogs do not get fat and lazy form being neutered. Just from too much food and not enough exercise. Get him neutered. There are lots of pros and not cons.

If your Boxer stays active (as he is now) and takes in the same amount of food (don`t over feed) he should not gain wait. I agree the pros of neutering sooooo outweight the cons. For example neutered: NO chance of testicle cancer, the dog is much easier to handle, it is way more tolerant temp wise, and you don`t have to worry so much about them wanting to visit the girl down the street.

All round you will have a healthier pet if he is neutered. It does not alter his personailty but you will see a more calm rational boy.

I agree with the previous responses. There are no negative effects of neutering any breed. Just be sure your dog isn't fed too much and gets enough exercise as well as keep up with the training. Waiting to neuter a dog after it is a 'certain age' will also not make him grow any larger or make him unhappy, but it can lead to a longer and a more quality life.

A dog should be neutered at or before 6 months of age to deter marking and wondering.

Axel was neutered about a month and a half ago and isn't one bit lazy. I was a big fan of getting him Neutered because I heard that It would prevent them from digging, wanting out of the fence, etc but I think that he has dug more, and tried to get out of the yard more now than before he was fixed.

I think those are signs of the mischievious Boxer way and boredom not from neutering side effects! mY gang (both altered and unaltered) give each other a good run on which can dig the deepest, largest, quickest just to make a game of it but they are not trying to escape.

ThorsMomma, we were deciding as to wether to get Major neutered or not & had decided to get it done at 7mths, he is 7 months at the moment but wont be getting done until he beats Demodex now...the deciding factor for hubby that it was definitely going to be done was the fact that being neutered would help his immune system boost, hopefully lessening the chance of getting demodex again.

Our bitch is already spayed she was done at about 2yrs, she has her fat lazy mths which are the months that I am being fat & lazy too, its when I dont get out & exercise her & dont properly watch her food levels...

I too am curious about getting my boxer neutered. Does anyone know what the max. age this can be done?
