Nervous for my Liller ~ Ear Crop 12/17 AM

I know I'm prolly over reacting but maybe we can hear some words of encouragement for Lilly and myself for tomorrow as she goes to get her ears cropped. I don't think I'd be this nervous if there weren't so many negative threads written on this topic. Plus the fact that I received so many different opinions about it from absolutely not... its cruel etc to my grandparents who bred boxers when they were in their younger years who are old fashioned and don't think the boxer looks like a boxer without the ears cropped.

I could'nt find a vet in my area so tonight she is staying with my parents in greensboro and off to the vet in the morning there at a place I used to work. They gave me no discout on the quite expensive surgery but I trust they willl take good care and do a great job because I used to see them crop boxers all the time when I worked there. I guess it's just different when it's your own baby....

I know well the butterflies in the stomach when your puppy goes in for their crop. 99 percent of the time, everything is fine. And tomorrow at this time, it will be done and your baby will be back in your arms. Sending good thoughts to you that everything is smooth as can be......

good luck! Both mine are cropped and were up and about, runnin around by the time i picked them up after surgery that afternoon! Don't worry about the negative comments... its your own perogative. (i've gotten a few rude remarks from people on the street..) Best of lucK, i hope your earposting time is short!

Good luck and I'm sure all will go well. Ginger came to us at 5 months old with natural ears so that is something we never had to deal with. But when you baby goes for any surgery(Ginger's spay) it is scary. She will be fine though. Keep us posted

I too understand the butterflies that accompany any time your baby goes in for surgery. But as other posters have said, ignore the negative comments. It's your decision. If you choose to have her cropped so be it. I've had three cropped and they've all come through with flying colors. Up and at it by the time I got them home that evening. I'm always a little sad to see the "baby" ears go but they look beautiful IMO once the taping and posting is done the the "big girl" ears are standing.

Butterflies in your stomach are normal

I remember when we had Jag's ears done, I was a nervous wreck. But he was wide awake when we picked him up and was his sweet little self, playing and he ate right after too.
Don't worry what others say, if you enjoy the regal look of a cropped boxer than all your efforts in the coming weeks with Lilly's ears will be worth it. Hope your posting time is not too long.

It will be fine

I remember being worried sick when we dropped Brutus off for his crop this past September. I felt so bad for the little fella when we picked him up and his poor little ears had stitches in them. The thing on his head really bugged him. He was wagging his little nubbin and ready for some kisses though. The only time you could tell it bothered him was when he would accidentally lie over on one of them for the first couple of days. He was healed up and his stitched came out after only about six days. We're still taping them cause they were cut so long, but he looks really good when we first take them down. He has that proud to be a big boy look. I will probably never crop another baby's ears again (I'm too soft hearted), but I don't regret doing his.

Thank you all for your words of encouragement it really helps to know there are others out there that have gone through this before with success. I called this afternoon to see how she was doing and the vet said she was up and at'em after the surgery as well as on some excellent pain medicine. I wish she was here with me now but the vet requires an overnight stay. Can't wait to go get her in the morning...

Just FYI to other folks, though, unless your vet is a 24 hour facility with staff up all night (not just a 1 am walk through), there's no reason to leave a puppy overnight after a cropping. If the vet closes at 8 or 9 pm and doesn't reopen until morning, that's a lot of hours of complete lack of supervision. Even untrained supervision at home is better than that (assuming there's someone at home to keep a reasonable eye on the pup and take it to an emergency clinic if need be)

This holds true for many surgical procedures (except those that require virtual immobilization, which is hard to accomplish in the home environment). The watchful eye of a caring owner and a local emergency clinic is superior to being left alone in a closed veterinary clinic with a lot of other sick dogs.

Update?

Brooke is now 5 days post crop. How is your baby doing? I felt the same way you did about seeing her with no more baby ears!!! But I couldn't stand the thought of her looking like Gismo (gremlins) like the puppy on the ear crop dilemma web page with ears like hers.
