I have 3 kids aged 7..5 nd the youngest who is 3.
I potty trainned the 7 year old when she was 18 months and my son took a bit longer...he was 3 and pretty much decided on his own he wanted to be out of diapers....HERE is my problem...its with the 3 year old
She turned 3 this october and is wearing pull ups. I am doing the same i did with the other 2...Now she will go only when i remind her and we both go to the potty...out of ten times she will go almost everytime but does not let me know on her own...she will do number 2 and will not say anything....sometimes she will...but most of the time she doesnt.
I should say that develepmentally( speech wise) she is a year behind.
She was born deaf and did not receive a cochlear implant till she was ONE...so she is like a 2 year old in understanding...
She will be going to kindergarden this october and this is why i feel so pressured to get this done.
I did have her wear underwears one time and she had an accident in them...and all she said was oh oh!!.
I then put her back to pull ups. Should i go back to underwears?or just drop the issue all together.....i should mention that we do reward her whenever she goes with smarties.....the problem is she never tells us when she has to go.

Well I would put her back into panties. They don't absorb it all like the pull-ups do so it's more uncomfortable for them to wear. It's harder on you of course but my kids seemed to pick it up better when in underwear instead of pull ups. I often put rubber pants on them with the underwear if they had a lot of accidents. It's not 100% but is does help with the messiness of it and still feels yucky to them. I would probably still use pull ups at night if she has accidents at night though, because nobody wants to deal with that in the night and you don't want a ruined mattress either. Good luck.

She doesn't sound ready yet. Give her some more time, you can't push them before they are ready.

I agree they won't go until they are ready, but I took my kids to pick out "big kid" underwear so they felt a little in control. Robbie one day just went on his own, but Katie was a little tougher. She really wanted to go to preschool, but I kept telling her she couldn't until she went to the potty-no diapers in preschool. That pretty much worked! Good luck.

success

I took Vela's advice and put Mia in underwears.
I still had to be the one to take her ...ever hour to 2...but she had no accidents. I kept bringing the potty to each room she stayed and kept stressing to her...not to forget that she was in underwears and not pull ups and to go potty ...she did..
So even though i am fearfull she will have an accident...maybe that is what it will take for her to learn.
Thank you all for the advice. I figured i was an expert...after all she is number 3...but we all know ALL kids are different!!!LOL

My pschology professor once told me that people learn/remember better when possitive language is used. So, you may want to try saying "Remember you're in big girl pants today, so you need to go in the big girl potty! :) "

Just a little working with the natural inclinations of the brain :o , if you want.

My daughter is 18 mos old and I am just starting to get her used to sitting on the potty (which she loves!LOL). She is our first child so I have no experience with this. Any advice on how you got your little ones potty trained? I am going blindly into this!

Sometimes kids learn better when they actually have to teach someone else. It sounds weird but I think when they play teacher to somebody else, they have and a-ha moment where they go, "Oh, I get it!" So maybe have her teach a dolly how to go potty on the dolly toilet and she'll get that she needs to go potty on the big girl toilet.... Hope that makes sense. I've never actually tried it myself though so I dunno... Good Luck!

2 accidents

She had 2 pee accidents one right after another...and i put her on the potty every hour...i got mad and yelled at her...i know ...i know i shouldn't have
But 6 months ago she had it all done and told us each time she had to go and now we got Nina( the dog) and Mia has regressed....I feel so pressured to have this potty thing done.....my other 2 were done by 2 and 3...why is she not getting it....she cannot go to jk with diapers...
She will still be in underwears .....hopefully in a week she will learn
Nina is housetrained.....why cant my daughter learn?
Thanks for letting me vent...sometimes i just feel so overwhelmed!!!

There is a book called potty training your child in 5 days. While this probably WONT happen, maybe you can check out the book from the libarary and find some helpful information in it that you can apply to your situation. I have heard of others who used it with great succes and others who said it didn't help but maybe something in it may help. Sorry you are having a hard time, I know it can be difficult.
