Yeah!! Jake finally learned "crawl". I'm such a proud mother. That was a tough one! But... knowing how bored boxers become with the same old trick, I need a new one. He knows all the basics - sit/stay, down/stay, paw, etc. Any ideas???

Yeah Jake!!! Layla and I are working on the crawl right now!! Have you tried hide and find the toy yet?? I hear they love that one--haven't tried it yet--maybe after she masters the crawl!

I have a really neat book called The Trick is in the Training. It has lots and lots of tricks in it. One that I think is really cute is when the dog puts his paw over his nose when you say where's your nose. I started teaching Zack to do this, but I didn't do it often enough so he doesn't know it yet. He really likes learning tricks. Roll over is another good one. If Jake is old enough to jump, you could teach him to jump through a hula hoop. I love watching them crawl, very cute!

A cute thing we've taught Roscoe was to 'answer questions'. We first taught him to wave his left paw (he shakes with the right) with the command "wave" and waving hand motion. He did this so readily that we shrunk the command down so that all you have to do is barely move your finger. So, you can make the motion by your side or hip where others can't see and ask him things like "Who's a good boy?" and he will raise his paw. It's really funny and works for anything he can answer with "me". We usually ask him "Who wants a cookie?" or something. :)

High Five!

I taught Seamus how to high 5 when he was 5 months old, everyone gets such a kick out of this, i just hold my hand flat out like a high 5 I say "Gimme Five!" (and i hold it high enough so he knows it's not a shake) and he reaches his paw up and smacks me 5!

Everyone that sees it, thinks it's a hoot, my brother even has his black lab doing it now.

Another one, that I cant get Shay to do for the life of me, My sister in law taught her golden lab to die when she puts his finger up to his head and says BANG! He falls to the floor and plays dead it's really cute. But I cant get shay to fall to floor he just looks stupid at me LOL

How cute all of your tricks are!!!!

Unfortunately, Krose is not a very much trcik learner:rolleyes:
There is something about this boy that I couldn't quite figure it out yet! I tried to play dead trick, he was not responsive. He looked at me as if I was being foolish and he was noble and would not do such a thing:p
Then I tried the roll ever thing which he totally refused, freaked out etc!
But...:D
He is a very good seeker!!! His itty bitty nose is very good at finding things. I didn't teach him anything. But if I show him what I'm going to hide, he will find it no matter what. He is very good at it. I think he would be very good at Search and Rescue;)
but after seeing all those search and rescue dogs in the 99 quake, I felt very bad for them. They were finding the bodies but since they were all dead, they were emotionally upset for a while. Sometimes the trainers would just hide people so that the dogs would find ''alive'' people. To help keep spirits up. Also their paws were all cut and bleeding from walking on the debris. It was heartbreaking but of course my heart was broken more from seeing all the dead people in the debris. I lost so many friends...

I am sorry this has been long and maybe out of the subject. That earthquake has a big impact on my life..

I love the "bang" trick where they lay on thier back and act dead when you point your finger at them. In one of the books I have there is a trick that shows them putting thier head on the floor with thier butt in the air and then putting thier paws over thier face. The book calls it "sorry". I thought it looked like a cute trick.

Peanut angeliconused to do this thing where she would get excited and and do a little dance where she would move her feet around really fast like she was standing on a hot plate or something. It was almost like a wiggle, but her body barely moved, just her feet going crazy. I never quite got her trained to do it on command, but it was very cute. I would ask her if she was dancing for Mom, and it would make her do it even more.

:p
