Boxer Pal
My pucker was just diagnosed with having a stage 2 Mast Cell Tumor on her limb. We had it removed at Angel Memorial Hosipital and the parameter came back clear --thank god-- but there is still the question "should we have further tests performed?"

Im hoping someone can point me to information regarding the different stages of Mast Cell Tumors. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks so much,
Jeff

First off, Pucker.......what a great name!!
I'm glad the parameter came back clear.
Here is a link that is aptly titled, Pet Owners Crash Course in Canine Mast Cell Tumors.
The site is very informative & does cover the different stages, plus it has some other useful links at the end of it.
I hope you find some use of this site & that everything works out well for your Pucker. Please keep us posted.

Hey Jefff I noticed you lived in Boston, there is an excellent Homeopathic vet in Hopkinton that may be able to educate and give you some different options and Tufts animal hospital is also really good.....

Any how check in over at the Boxer Bash Forum a couple of us are trying to put something together...Pucker is such a cute name!!

We had experience with the same type of mast cells, on the ankle, 2 years ago, and we haven't had a problem since. :D Right from the beginning, our vet gave us a photocopy from the book he is using, that showed the steps we have to take. When we first found out that Pisu has this tumor, before we did the surgery, we tested to see if it spread anywhere - lymph nodes, blood, bone marrow, and internal organs (X-ray). Then we had the surgery done. Because there is no guarantee that the tumor is removed completely, especially at the ankle area, we chose to do radiation therapy. We went to Rochester, NY, where there is a very good oncologist. I know that Boston was our second choice, so there is a place close to you.

After that, I changed his diet and also gave him vitamins and other supplements to ensure that I eliminate as much as I can the chance for cell mutation. The suggestion with the Homeopathic vet is very good, since diet is key to the prevention of cancer. Bellow are a few links that I used in my research. If you have any questions, please send me a message.
