Aimee I am so sorry Bater isn't feeling well. I wish I had something positive to say but Baxter's symptoms sound identical to the big "C"'s when he was diagnosed with a brain tumor. We also skipped the MRI and Cat Scan - the neurologist recommended both at the low, low price of $3500. But in our case she could actually feel part of the lump so it was a secondary measure anyway. Please see a neurologist! Though they are going to tell you to do a CT or MRI. Caesar had lymphoma at the time so for us it was the end of a long struggle. But if C didn't have cancer I would have done the MRI for this reason alone ... tumors of the ears (removable through suregery) can present in a similar manner to brain tumors. Being that these tumors can be removed it is worth it to find out what you are dealing with. The neurologist will be able to give you more info. We kept C on a leash during this period so he wouldn't hurt himself. He kept getting tangeled up in furniture and almost fell in our pool several times. Sending all our positive vibes to you guys! Please keep us posted. I am so sorry for what you are going through. It's heartbreaking, I know.

Thank you all for your wonderful thoughts, prayers and for sharing your experiences. It's always comforting to know that others know how you feel, especially during trying times. We have an appointment with a neurosurgeon on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. I feel so relieved just knowing this. We got very lucky because they had a cancellation and could get us in so quickly. I think it's fate. Baxter's records have been sent to the MRI center here in Vienna, Virginia. They have a board certified anestheologist on staff and therefore he could possibly be a candidate for the MRI procedure. We should know something by the time we see the neuro doctor on Tuesday. Thank you for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers. I hope that I will have better news on Tuesday!

Cathy - how long did you have your baby on prednisone? Baxter was on this after the stroke and did remarkably well while he was on it but then began to decline again.

Sarah - Like you, we were also hoping for an ear infection. I mentioned that again today but unfortunantly Baxter's symptoms simply are not those of an ear infection. We were also told that we may not get a difinitive diagnosis from the MRI and my vet personally doesn't feel that at his age we should pursue a lot of heroic efforts. I'm not prepared to make any decisions about what measures I'm willing to take though until I get an opinion for the neurologist. I'm not ruling anything out at this point. I'll keep you updated. Give Cody a hug from me!

Stephanie - I appreciate you being honest and sharing that information with me. I still pray everyday that it is his ears, you still give me hope!

Again, thank you to each of you who took the time to respond to us. It means a lot!

How Long on Prednisone

Hi Aimee,

Im not entirely sure how long after she was discharged that we had to keep her on prednisone - I know she was on high dosages for several weeks after she was discharged. You should have seen her when we brought her in - none of the specialists thought she was going to make it, and it was touch and go there for a while. We were all set to put her down, but one lone neurologist told us to wait one more day, and I am so glad we did! She actually got up and started walking, was responding to simple commands, and went back to her cage when she was told to "go back to bed". Don't get me wrong, it still took many more months before a complete recovery. She didn't have to take steroids again until two years later when she developed the pemphigus, and that too, cleared up with the proper meds. So you see, there is hope. Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers - do keep us posted - Cathy

Aimee,

You tell Bax to hang in there and get better so Cookie and I can come visit him soon. Cookie, Joe & I will be in Fredricksburg the first week of Oct. for the ABC Regionals and we would love to come cheer up our buddy.

We will say a prayer for him and you during this difficult time. Don't hesitate to PM me if you need ANYTHING!

Lotsa lovicon and healing vibes being sent your way!
