I would have an xray done of the chest to see if there are any masses in the chest area now if the lungs and heart look clear then go ahead with the surgery. We do MANY splenectomies at our Emergency clinic and sometimes they look malignent and they end up being benign. You never really know till you have it biopsied. If they do see masses in the heart or lungs then there is not much time.
Best Wishes!

UPDATE: Well, Scooby girl came through the surgery just fine! The doc removed her spleen and a growth near the spleen. The growth is the size of a baseball and the doctor said he has never seen anything like it. Both the growth & spleen are off to the path lab. We will know tomorrow (6/4) if they are cancer or not. She is just laying around on some pain meds. But her little tail is waggin' and she seems to be in good spirits! My husband and I got to go into the operating room and see all the was taking place. We both have strong stomachs. When we were in the oper. room and we started to talk, lil' Scooby started twitching, it was like she could hear us near her. I started crying, so we left and went back to the waiting room. Shes not eating much and I'm sure that normal. Thank you for all your support and prayers... I'll keep you posted. Bless you all xoxo

That is great news! Sccoby knew your were close by her the whole time. That is also cool that you were able to go into the OR with her. I too have a strong stomach and have attended many people surgeries in school but I don't think I would be able to watch my pup having surgery. It would be interesting though. Please keep us posted and we have everything crossed that the growths come back benign.

Give Scoobs some extra lovins' from us, we have been waiting for this update after being through so much with our Tossie.

Well, we just a call from the vet on the test results and it's not good. I had such high hopes for my baby girl. It is cancer, cancer of the blood vessels. The doc said she will have about 3 to 6 months. He said she will start slowing down and will let us know when the time is right. Oh, my heart is so heavy right now it's hard to see through the tears! I wish I knew how to enclose a picture of her. If you go to google and type in "madchen and scooby" a picture will appear. Scooby is the floppy ears and Madchen is the crop ears. Madchen was our first boxer and she passed away at 9 1/2 of spleen cancer. Life just isn't fair sometimes, they give so much love and are only here for a short time! So keep the prayers coming for my little Scooby-girl!! Thanks again for the support......
