Need Good Luck Vibes, worried about ACE

Sending a bunch of good luck vibes to Wilson for his neuter :) I lean to the side of NOT using Ace. In fact, I went as far as having the vet pull the folders on all 4 of my kids while I was there and put Do Not Use ACE on all of them,while in the presence of me and my husband. I don't want to take any chances with my babies health.

I did that at our vet office. We dropped him at 8.30 and I wasn't supposed to get him until 4.30. They called me at 2 and said that I could come get him cause he wasn't happy in the kennel. I asked if he was crying they said "yes and barking", lol. As for the ACE, our vet has boxers and they won't have ACE anywhere near them. I would be very insistant.

I told my vet I didn't want ACE used on Duke. I took in a sheet about it and she made a copy to keep in his file. She did say though, that she doesn't use it she uses something else. I was very comfortable with it. If you are not, I would not leave him there. I did have the option to have him get a pain shot before I picked him up which I had them do.

Duke was also ready for pick up that same night. They said they only kept females over night after being spayed. I think they kept Cody over but maybe not since that was quite a while ago.

I have been trying to find a vet to neuter Owen, and one I as his permanent vet. I went to meet one, who was based on referrals from a lot of close friends, all who loved him and this vet neutered their dogs (not Boxers though). I was talking to him about ACE and he says its fine. He uses it sometimes for extreme cases. I told him if I got Owen neutered there I do NOT want them using ACE for any reason. He insisted he’s never seen a problem with it, they don’t use it often anyway. But I made him write “NO ACE” on Owen’s chart. Well I will NOT be getting him neutered there. I don’t want to have to beg them not to use it. Since then I’ve met with 2 more vets, both of which said they NEVER use ACE on Boxers and that’s what I want to hear.
If you don’t feel totally comfortable then I would go somewhere else. I don’t see the rush with getting him neutered anyway. Owen is 8 months old and I will be getting him neutered after the holidays.

If you ask your vet not to use ace, then they're obligated not to use it. Any vet who does when you've asked them not to is opening themselves up for a professional liability (malpractice) lawsuit.

I hope your little guy recovers quickly. Please NEVER, EVER use Ace on a Boxer. If you were allergic to pennicilin would you use it because a doctor said it should be OK! If they say they might, walk away very quickly! Find a new vet that can respect your wishes and knows about boxers.

Well I am about to go and pick up Wilson!!!! He did get neutered today and I spoke to the vet a couple times, right before surgery and after and he is doing just fine, everything went great!!!! :p
She did agree not to use ACE so I was happy about that. I still wanted her to call me after she had sedated him and was about to do surgery, just to make sure he didn't have any bad reactions to anything. I am the biggest worry-wort and I was thinking maybe even if ACE isn't being used that something else can go wrong, so it would've driven me crazy to not talk to her! I also spoke to her after he woke up. Apparently he was looking pretty hungry, poor guy!

Anyways thanks for all your replies and well wishes! Hopefully Wilson will have a great, fast recovery!
