Need Good Luck Vibes, worried about ACE

Guys Wilson should be getting neutered tomorrow, so I'm asking for some good luck vibes that all goes well and he heals nicely.

I say should because I may have a problem with my vet and their use of ACE. They said they use a minimum, diluted amount as a pre-sedative but even my trainer today insisted I do not let them use it on Wilson. I have been doing some more reading on here about ACE and I am getting really worried and anxious. I am going to insist that they do not use any amount of it on Wilson, but what if they insist that it will be ok, or they have nothing else to give him? I am on their wellness plan and the neutering is all included in the plan. I have been extremely happy with them so far, and it would be a real shame to have to leave, but I just don't feel comfortable taking any risks. :(

Well, please wish me luck with all this, especially if he does get neutered.

If you are not 100% certain they won't use ACE, I would not leave Wilson there. Since they are so insistent, they may forget and use it by accident.

I should also metion that in a recent post some BW members made a good point: if you ask that it not be used, your vet should honor that request.

If they insist on using ACE, then you should insist on picking your dog up and getting the heck out of there!!! I am sure everyone on this board would do the same thing . Otherwise... hope all goes well and Wilson is back to his silly ol' self in no time :D .

Oh I forgot to mention that they won't be keeping him overnight - he is available for pick up at 5.30 pm that same day (I drop him off at 8.30am). Is that a bad thing?? So far I've read that people had to leave their dogs overnight...

God forbid that they did use ACE (even a diluted amount) and something terrible happened.....You would not be able to forgive yourself for agreeing that it be allowed. Follow your FIRST GUT INSTINCT and tell them that you DO NOT want it used for the procedure, humor you if they will. Offer to pay for something else (if it is not included in the plan).

Many boxers have surgery every day without the use of ACE. If this vet's office refuses to honor your wishes then walk out the door. You are paying them for a service, you get to determine how and what your dog is treated with. Don't even consider taking the risk, and it is one.

They absolutely have other options for sedatives, demand that they use it (nicely). Even IF they are 100% sure that your guy will be fine make it clear that you are against it and won't allow it to be used.

Stand firm and everything will be fine.

If you have a problem with it, and you should, than he should not be getting it!!!!!!!
Please don't risk it!!!! Cisco was not given ace, I don't know if my vet normaly gives it, I didnt ask, I just said don't give it to him and they didnt. That is the way it should be.
From what I have read here, I took it as the majority of vets do not keep them overnight. Mine does and I was fine with it b/c I have two small children and thought Cisco could use the extra quiet time.

I would think they would have to have something else to use... If they don't I would question them in general... just like people have to have options especially with allergies and such... we hope Wilson heals fast (Guinness needs his buddy!!!!)

At our vet they usually let male dogs go home the same day as long as long as their is no caution or complications. And also depending on how early the surgery is done.

Our vet also uses a sedative that has ACE mixed in. Even though I asked up front and expressed my worries about ACE, I was told they have used it on many boxers and have never had a problem. I reluctantly agreed because my boxer's spay was emergent due to an infected uterus. She did just fine. But as I am sure you have read, that is not always the case. I know what you mean about having a vet that you are comfortable with and that you can afford, so I would have to weigh all that out in making the decision.

Sending lots of good vibes for Wilson's neuter tomorrow - as well as hopeful vibes that your vet when you talk to him/her before the surgery, will honor your wishes and NOT use ACE. Let everyone you come in contact with when you take him in know that you do not want ACE used. And then make sure that it is put in his chart in big bold red letters DO NOT USE ACE. Sounds a little hysterical, but when it comes to the wellbeing of our babies, we must insist.

I think for most neuterings, it is a same day procedure. We dropped our Grunt off at 7:30AM and picked him up at 6:00PM. Good luck!! Let us know how it all turns out.
