need advice

Hi,.....as i am typing this i am shaking with excitement!!!!!!!!!!
I have been on a waiting list with a breeder to get my pup in june 2005.
But while i have been waiting i have found another one that is much further...distance wise but she has a 11 week old right now.....she is cute beyond words....anyways...i am still waiting too see some more updated pictures of her ...i have only seen ones when she was 7 weeks old.
My question is....she will be shipped by plane cause the car ride is 20 hours...the breeder has done this before with no problm
But what happens with money....she probably want the money sent 1st right??how do i protect myself...one never knows these days.
She is a reputable breeder...been doing this for many years but my hubbie is the level headed one here and is worried since its not peanuts we are spending for her( i might add well worth it)
i need help...advice
also how do dogs handle going on a plane....poor thing i am already feeling like her mommy

I got my puppy from a breeder in Salt Lake City and I had to send her the money first. She would have shipped the puppy to me, but I flew to get him instead as it was only an hour flight and I figured it would be less stressful on him. Anyway, I guess its a risk you have to take and just go on your gut feeling on whether she seems trustworthy or not. She probably wants the money first because she has to pay to have him shipped to you. I'm sure she also doesn't want to ship you the puppy and then you stiff her. So, it kinda goes both ways. Maybe you can see if she'll take half, and then you'll pay the other half after she ships the puppy to you.

I think it is really individual, but mine handled it well. I flew to get her and I was definitely more stressed about her flying than she was--she was curious and excited about all of the people and the airport setting and seemed to be having a great time. We played a lot before the flight so I think she was tired and just slept during the flight. She was 8 weeks and five days at the time.

I do feel that she is a reputable breeder...for many reasons..YES she has asked me a LOT of questions about my family...and asked to view my home in detail...she loves her dogs as if they were her children. She does all the health testing...has paperwork...offers references...i can go on and on
my question is just its a lot of money and i have never done this before...this is our 1st boxer....
She also has them crate trained as well as spayed/neutered.....which is a huge plus....as i strongly belive in it...

First things first - make sure she is a Responsible breeder. Don't accept time spent breeding as "responsible". Have you seen the health testing results for both parents yet? Have you seen at least photos of the parents? What is the reason they are having this litter? How old is momma and how many litters has she had? How old is the sire?

If they are bragging long time involvement in the breed, what do they do?
Only breed?
Or participate in something more involved?

Worry about these things first before getting the puppy. Don't give this far away breeder a single dime until you have answers and proof on the more important issues.

the mom is 3 years old and the dad is 8...she only breedes them 1 every 1 to 2 years....this female pup was a result of an unplanned pregnancy...but the mom and dad have been health tested...should i be reconsidering??or ...tell me what should i be asking for her to show me???

Unplanned pregnancy? Not a good start, though accidents do happen.

Okay, the breeder "says" they are health tested. Has she shown you any proof? THAT is what you need before you even consider buying an unplanned puppy from her.

Do not accept anyone word on health testing. It is very common to lie about it and just expect people to believe you. At least, I have found that with the majority of pet breeders.

one warning sign: unplanned (not saying theyre not reputable, but this MIGHT be a sign)

since the mom is only 3, are they planning on breeding her every year or so? thats probably not a good sign either.

I'm not sure if you've seen this page or not, but you might want to take a look at it. It has several very important questions that you should ask a breeder (any breeder) prior to purchasing one of their puppies.

Here are my personal thoughts on whether or not you should get this puppy. If I were in your shoes I would wait for the puppy in June of 2005. Since you're already on a waiting list (even though it's still quite a ways away), it might be a good thing to continue your relationship with this breeder and her breeding program. The quickest puppy to purchase isn't always the best choice.

The fact that this 'new' breeder is so willing to sell you a puppy from an 'unplanned' litter, that just doesn't sit right with me. This is especially troubling if you haven't met this breeder face to face yet. Most reputable breeders that I know of like to meet with their potential puppy buyers to get a good feel of what they're all about and to see if they're worthy of taking one of their puppies. These are just my personal thoughts though.

Ok....1st of all she is not pushing this puppy on me. There is a scheduled litter coming end of december and she 1st told me about that one.I had told her that i have been waiting for 6 months now and am not in a hurry.
I have asked her all the questions you all suggested here and she has given me the right answers...BUT if you say i should ask for written health testing before i get the pup...then i will do that...can i ask for it via email??
The reson i am looking at this pup from an unplanned litter is i brought it up to her...that i saw she has one on her website...and asked if she is still available...and she is.She is 11 weeks old and ofourse i think as cute as a button...but most puppies are.
Like i said she has answere all my questions just as the breeder who i am still on the waiting list with....and i did not meet either one.
The do this for sho...they have posted on their websites the awards their dogs win.She told me this is the 1st unplanned pregnancy....and really does it matter ...if they are healthy?
I am not making this decision without a lot of thought....i have been researching boxers and breeders for 6 months now.....i guess everything i have read about her could all be lies...anything is possible.
I have sent her a couple of emails with further questions....will see how she replies to me asking her to send me proof of health.
ps...she quarantees the pups health for 3 years ...she is microchipped...spayed and crate trainned...obviously she does care to some extent about her dogs
