Hi everyone,

I am having a problem. Any ideas of what to do in the
winter with my Boxer? When I get home from work
it is dark, and now cold!! He needs som eactivity to keep
him from getting bored. And those eyes looking
at me saying ..... Well what are we going to do?
Any ideas?

By the way does anyone live on Long Island? If so,
I would love to get the dogs together for a good rump!!

Please let me know.

It's cold here in Chicago too! Only two of my guys enjoy the snow, so it's not an activity for everyone. But we play fetch the snowball. It's so funny, the way they look for it when it disappears.

For those who aren't fans of the snow, we do the opposite of Rachele and Duane, and hide the Boxer under the blanket. The get all riled up and get so excited when they finally get out. We play fetch in the hallways since there is more room. We go for rides in the car. Go to our doggie friend's house, or have them over, and go visit Grandma. And this year, we are working on more stupid tricks... Spencer has already learned how to stand!!!! Such a good boy, he looks so cute!

Good thread, I am looking forward to more ideas!

We work on tricks too. Clarice is doing roll-over, wave and shake hands pretty well now.

Or I just dress her up in lots of warm clothes and we go play in the snow. She doesn't mind because her brother Faust doesn't and he is her idol.

We live in the city and end up playing indoors more in the winter. Tyson loves fetch and tug of war, which burns up quit a bit of energy (for everyone involved). he also loves to play with towels, especially when you hide things under them or toos it on him. Also make sure he has planty of chew toys. the chewing burns up their energy too.
We try to take tyson out as much as we do when the weather is warmer, but we do end up playing indoors more. we live in an apartment, so we can't just let him out to play unless we all go.
Take care.

We play tug too, go over and visit puppy friends and let them play. I also rub peanut butter in Kong. Keeps him occupied trying to get the "treats" out. Also if your dog is a fetcher then fetch up and down a flight of stairs burns off energy!

It doesn't snow down here but we do get a good bit of rain and Rocky hates to get wet in the rain. He tip toes around puddles and tries to stay on the stepping stones as much as possible. He is so precious.

We like to play tug also. One of his favorite games. Rocky also likes to be chased. We try to get his babies (stuffed animals) from him. He won't let us have them for anything. :)

Zeus has taken a liking to playing with a flash light. He chases that light around like you wouldn't believe:D I fact he knows where I keep it, so when he wants to play he tries to get out of the cupboard. He really has an addiction to it.

Of course, I'm from Wisconsin, so Tyson and Cassius love to play in the snow...they jump through it like they are deer running in a field! Then they put their noses in it and flip the snow up in the air! They try doing this in the summer time, but it doesn't work for them then. I can never build a snowman in my yard because they always think that I am making a ball for them to chase! They are so funny!:D

IT IS NEVER TOO COLD.....

I can sure understand your frustration with the lack of light and warmth this time of year.
However, I don't believe that is ever too cold! I live in Maine the temp is around 25 to 30 during the day and teens at night. I have a one year old flashey fawn boy, and just recently got another male flashey brindle. Now they always have something to do.... I used to go home and see the same pathetic eyes stareing me down. Now I let the boys out in the yard and they run around and chase each other. They come in freequently to warm there feet and ears... Once they are in the house the same goes they are so interested into what each other is doing it always keeps there minds involved in something.

Prior to getting my second pup... I would go for a walk at night with my pup just to get him some fresh air. Just getting him out for 20 or 30 min makes a big diference! Good luck and if you really want to reduce your guilt get your pup a playmate!

It's kinda of ironic that this came up. Last night Creed just could not be satified with playing. He was getting into some serious mischief and just acting like a lunatic! Then it occured to me, he didn't have anything to chew on. So here I was at 930 at night going to the store and buying a bone. He partically likes soup bones, but rawhide had to do. He was a happy boy after that. But it's cold here in Ohio too and he has not learned to like it yet so we play tug of war, tackle daddy and he rough houses with our collie alot. Having a playmate helps.....
