We do need a permit now

We visited Greene Valley Forest Preserve today. I like this one A LOT better then the one I originally suggested. This one is completly fenced in, they have water for the dogs and a restroom for us! The other doesn't. They even have a smaller area fenced off for dogs weighing 35 lbs or less. I'd much rather have it here instead but don't mind staying with the one first suggested if thats inconvienient for anyone. The main intersection nearby (besides the one its at) is 75th street and RT53-just West of that. Its at the Naperville/Woodridge border basically.

About the Permit:
Starting July 1st they require you have a permit. I know this is kind of a bummer but if we're going to have a bash once a month we'll definitely get our money worth. All the information for the permits is here:
www.dupageforest.com/RECREATION/Dogs/dogs.html

The website also lists other parks in Dupage county so we can try those out also.

As for which day to have it:
I'm up for either or and even both, so if someone has another prior commitment to where they definitly can't make one date, let us know and we'll make the final decision real soon then.

Question

So do you we need a permit for every dog park/forest preserve in the Dupage area?
Also, I couldn't see on the site what prices would be for just a one day pass? I will end up buying a yearly one once I get my pup but other people who don't live in Dupage would want a day pass.

If people aren't willing to pay for the permit, or if it's too much, we could just find another park out of the area where you don't need a permit. As long as we meet up I don't care where we go :)

I'm not 100% sure on the whole permit thing either. I know there is a number on the website to where you can call during normal business hours and get more information. Hopefully there is one for a day pass as well.

Yeah I think it sucks that they want us all to have a permit and its my understanding that you need this permit in order to attend any of the dog parks starting July 1st in Dupage County.

They must figure we are all suckers for our dogs and will pay anything. They got me.

Hopefully everyone is still interested, if not, at least we tried. :)

The one day pass for non residents is $15.00. Annual pass for non residents is $75.00. I'd really like to get together, but honestly this is a little too pricey for me since I do live about 45 minutes from Naperville. Even if I came out once a month until December, it'd still be about $12.00 per visit with the annual pass, and I'm a bit of a cheapskate!

If there is somewhere we can meet that does not require a permit, or that charges less, I'm still interested.

Chula's Moms,

Consider yourself lucky! I wish we had the same deal down here. Our dog park won't even let us "test drive" the park before we pay for the permit. What if I don't like it? That really irks me.

I know what you're saying about the taxes supporting these things. We literally have a children's park every three blocks or so, nice parks, tax dollar funded, free to use of course. We have one dog park, tax dollar funded to build and maintain, yet we still have to pay to use it? Give me a break! There's probably some mumbo jumbo about "this will weed out irresponsible dog owners" in their reasoning, but I don't buy it. Any idiot with a few bucks can pay for a permit. I'm just not willing to shell out my money for something that could turn into a disaster. Maybe I'm the idiot, lol.

Which dog parks do you use in Chicago? I need to start locating anything in a 30 mile vicinity where she can run off leash. Our yard is fine, but it's such a joy to see her running and playing in a huge area. She loves it and she deserves it.

Thanks,
Jen

Is there a date?
We go to the Dog park on Greene Valley Forest preserve a few times a week but I've never seen any other boxers there. :(
Unfortunatly my husband takes classes on the weekend a couple hours away, so I can't come to any weekend ones in July.
But we would love to see some boxers there sometime, we try to go around 9/10 in the morning, or when it cools down in the evening around 5:30, or six.
I hope to see some boxers there!

Has there been a final date and time figured out? I live about an hour and 15 min from naperville area but would have no problem making the drive!

Ok, I know everyone has a certain day or time that works better for them. So here's what we're going to do. We will be there on the 17th and 18th at 10am. Hopefully this gives everyone a chance to attend and allow their boxer to play with at least one or two boxers.

Chula's Mom: We don't mind making it up there either to Chicago sometime soon. We don't have weekends off all the time, we have rotating shifts so it's a little bit hard to schedule with people who have "normal jobs".

If anyone wants to meet up sometime in the morning before 2pm, we can also do that. I work at 3pm and Rob works at 6pm.

We're actually on our way out to door to Greene Valley Forest Preserve! Rocco is pacing in here as I write this :)

One time!

My two cents: I think for the one time we should
get together and see how big of a group and how
serious everyone is as far as meeting. I am OK with paying $15.00
one time but I know that buying a permit for us will not work because we would not go to Naperville often enough. As in previous emails, I agree with the suggestion to take turns meeting in different parks to be fair to the ones that have to drive farther.
Just let us know when and where!
