I use the dremel tool and it is very easy to use the cost is about $25.00 to $30.00 at sears or home depot. Capone will sleep the whole time i am doing it.

I use a Dremel, I don't have the guts for clipping....I shouldn't even post to this since I haven't done nails in weeks and my boys look like Ming emperors!

The Dremel tool can be found in any hardware store and some discount stores where the battery operated/electric tools are, and pet places (sometimes carry the Dremel model specifically for pets nails). It has a small sanding band on a rotary head. I got the battery operated/cordless model Mini Mite (retails for $49.95, but you could get it cheaper at a discount place) and use the 120 grit sanding band. I just got the J-B pet catalog and see one made by Oster for the same price. The knockoffs probably do just as good a job, and are a lot less expensive.

Ours have to go to the vet and have them done....and more than once we have been given our money back because four people...yes FOUR....could not contain Sasha!! She can be a challenge with strangers to say the least!
My gf has a 4 month old pit that she files his nails with her emory board and his pads get exfoliated too!! He has the softest pads.....i love it!!

i like to file...

i think the dremel is the greatest thing. i like it because i can make the edges real smooth. i have a little jumper and if he didn't have the smooth edges on his nail he would slice me into pieces. i use it once a week. it took a couple of weeks for him to get use to it. now he'll just sit there and let me file him down.
