yellow!..Cinnamon is almost 5 months old and ive clipped her nails 3 times since i got her...and now she needs another clipping. It was easier when she was a pup because Id just do it when she slept since she sleeps through anything.. but now its not so easy.. She pulls her paws away wont sit still..squirms. Ive played with her feet since she was a pup to get her used to the nail clipping..but no avail. ANy advice will help.

I always tire mine out by playing a good two hours or so. Call them up on the couch with me and cuddle, start petting their paws and messing with them, they get so tired they dont care of think Im still petting them, I have Gary run and grab the clippers and go at it. Works everytime for Raven, she otherwise wont let me do it.

I had a post about this awhile back because my Jade disliked having her nails cut more and more every time I did them. Alot of people suggested a Dremmel tool to grind the nails down but I've stuck with the clippers and would just cut a couple nails a day til I got them all. I just cut her nails the other day and she let me cut all of them at once and the trick that helped was to have her stand while I cut them instead of her feeling so helpless laying down. She never even growled like she did before so from now on I'll be cutting Jade's nail while she's standing, it can get ackward but it's better than anything else we've tried. Also what I learned was to not stop because of a growl or the foot jerking because then they learn that by doing that that you'll stop. Good luck it can definately get frustrating.

We use a really big raw meaty marrow bone as a distraction. When Buster is happily gnawing on one of those the house could fall down around him and he wouldn't notice or care.

I use a nail grinder. I thought about the dremmel but the voltage is a lot higher in the dremmel my fear is the somehow Molly would get a jolt from it.

I got it

I sit in a chair and call dozer to jump with his front two paw in my lap and give him a hug with my legs. I also taught him the "chill" command so he settles down and then I pet him for a minute and then I clip the nails while he watches he really hated it until he realized it didn't hurt! Now he likes it because he get's his marrow treats so he waits patiently like a good boy!

I should try the hot dogs next time!

Oh, I just use the little battery-powered one. It's not that powerful and a cord would get in the way.

Bella used to "scream" when she got her nails trimmed. I read in a book that you take the clippers and pick up a pay and just touch the clippers to each nail until they stop flinching or pulling away. Every time he does a good job then give him a treat (small treat like a piece of turkey or something). Get to where you can touch all the nails on one paw without him pulling away. Then cut one at a time and give a treat each time. You are constantly giving him treats while you do this, but with Bella it paid off after one time of doing that and she has no problem with it now. Good luck!
