My sweet Gretel

I am so sorry for your loss of Gretel. I love her pics, she reminds me so much of babies we have had in the past, especially my dear peanuts mom (who still lives with myown mom in pa). I know how your heart aches, we let our peanut go to the RB on 2-15-05. Please know that you did the right thing. You not only gave Gretel three wonderful years full of love, but you helped her to end the pain and find peace. It will hurt for awhile, but time will begin to heal that wound and your memories of Gretel will bring smiles and laughter rather than so much heartache and pain. I keep you in my heart and prayers now. I know Gretel is playing at thr RB with Peanut and ALL of the babies that have gone there. We will meet them again someday.

My mother called me this morning to tell me something unbelievable. Tuesday afternoon, my dad was on his tractor, mowing one of our pastures. Duke and Lilly, our Bullmastiff and Cavalier, were in the fenced back yard. On one of his passes around the pasture, he looked over at the back yard, and there weren't two dogs, but three. He saw Gretel in the yard with the other dogs. My dad isn't the kind of person who would make something like that up. In fact, I'm not even sure he believes in ghosts and the like, which makes it that much more surprising that he would tell my mom he saw Gretel. I guess it shook him up pretty badly. Instead of finishing the mowing, he took Duke for a walk down by the pond. My mom telling me made me cry all over again.

I am so sorry for your loss of beautiful Gretel. Your post about your dad seeing her is so poignant and touching. I am so sorry for the loss of your sweet girl. I have also looked at the pictures in your gallery and she was beautiful. I'm sure she was the best study buddy around and I bet she wouldn't have had it any other way. My sympathy goes out to you and your family.

I truly believe that Gretel was there.. She was there to say good bye to your other two Duke and Lilly and maybe let you all know not to worry that she is at peace now..Hope you don't mind if I share a story with you..
I believe that right after Our Riley went to the Bridge he sent Us a message. On the day that we picked up Riley ashes at the hospital it was such an emotional day, We had to go pick up my daughter from work right afterwards, we were sitting in the car waiting for her with his box on my lap and tears in our eyes, DH and I had parked way in the back row so we could see when she came out, an SUV drove by us it drove by us very slowy and when I looked up I couldn't believe what I read as they passed by us..Their lic plate said LUV RYE on it. We call him Rye for short all the time.
I felt like he had sent a message. I know some people would think I'm crazy, but we live in a state that vanity lic plates are everywhere, and what are the odds that on that sad emotional day I would see that particular one.. but I choose to believe that was his way of letting me know he loved us and to ease our sorrow just a little. So I think that was just Gretels way of letting you know she is ok to ease your sorrow and that she will still be watching over her family. (((Hugs))) Vickie

Wow, I am also cynical about ghosts and the like. After my brother died in 2003 I spent a lot of time wishing he would let me know he was ok. I would always ask for a sign or something (adding a laugh that it be obvious and not subtle!). After I gave up on this I had this dream where he was i n my kitchen and when it was time for him to leave I did not want to let him go becaue I knew he I would never see him again. he told me he was fine ad had to go and hugged me so tight I swear I could feel him. I woke up with my arms outstretched, crying and could swear I smelled "Drakkar". My brother always wore that cologne and I feel he was trying to get me to chill out and let me know he is ok. Maybe I do believe after all.

I am sorry Gretel is gone. I had a good laugh over her green bean addiction (I LOVE canned green beans!). What a sweet girl. Be strong.
