It was just about a month ago we had to let our Rocky go. He had a cancerous tumor in his chest that took his life. We took him to our Vet and let him go on New Years Eve morning. For about a week I could not get through a sentence without crying.
I wanted to make a list of things that endeared him to me, so I put this together:
• Watching my neighbor's girls get on the bus till they left to go to school.
• His one and only dog show – where he did the unthinkable – he sat down in front of the judge!
• The time he was so tired and was trying to stay awake while I was eating in front of him (He kept falling asleep)
• The way he use to act around my Mother in law (Very gentle)
• The way he used to play with puppies.
• His woo woo noises
• His howling at fire engines and sirens
• His snuggling up to me during winter nights
• The way he would put his head front first onto mine when I was on the couch.
• His gentleness with children
• His love of the dog park – He would remember if you told him he was going for days!
• His saving me from being bitten by a dog at that park by throwing his body at him.
• His alertness when guarding the house
• At night when he wanted to be with me, he would whimper and all I would see is his ears and head silhouetted in the dark next to my bed - I so miss that!
• When there were people on the couch, and he was told not to get up on the couch, he did anyway and crawled upside down to the person he wanted to be with.
• His steadiness – we could walk him without a leash
• His love of the ocean
• His love, loyalty and friendship
