FINALLY WE KNOW.

Tigger had his spinal tap done on Tuesday and he has meningitis - inflammation of the meninges (covering of the spinal cord). good news is that it can be treated with tablets and he should out grow it by 2yrs so really it is great news for us there are a few side effects from the drugs but nothing to serious and we just have to restrict his activity on the really hot days so that he does over heat (his turns come on from heat or over heating).

so thank you all for your thoughts and well wishes.

So Glad To Hear They Got It Figured Out And The Meds Will Help Him With Minimal Side Effets..but I Will Still Keep Him In My Positive Thoughts...

Thank goodness your baby can be treated! It's late now so I'm going to pray for all our boxers tonight for a good nights sleep with sweet dreams!

I just wanted to find out how he was doing. Muggsy had meningitis and after two months on medication he is just fine. Do they know how he got it. Muggsy's was contracted by the heartworm shot he received that was recently recalled. Let me know if you have any questions. we went through it all with Muggsy. His legs never gave out but he could not lift his neck off the floor. It all settled in his neck and he became so stiff he could not move it. I hope everything is well with your baby!

They don't know how he got it but appartently his is an immume disease not viral and is brought on by increased body temp. and we have had a very hot summer this year and it's his first summer, he turns always came on after he had been playing hard or was over excited, long walks on warm days etc, so until he out grows it we aren't really supposed to do any of this with him - going to be hard to keep him quite though and he has to stay inside on the really hot days they said he just cant cope with the heat as well as brandy can.
They also said they found an article from a US publication that said boxers were predisposed for this form of meningitis but the neurologist said it hadn't been her experience and she was keen to know if Tigger had european or USA linage and of course is linage is all American so i guess the neurologist has learnt something new as well but thankfully she and we didn't give up trying to find out what was wrong with my little baby.

thanks again to everyone for their thoughts and well wishes we really appreciated it.

Karen, brandy (whose happy to have her little brother on the mend) and Tigger who is feeling better everyday.

I hope both babies get better... it's such a heartbreak when they aren't their normal, bubbly selves.

All the best hopes, thoughts, wishes and prayers.

our wee miracles!

hi, glad to hear tiggers on the mend. went through the same experience last year with my wee angel dileas. 2 weeks of going back to the vets almost daily before she was sent to see a specialist as they didnt know what it was but didnt seem too woried. i was distraught! we went through all the tests at the hospital who kept her in that day for 2 weeks, i went to visit every day to reassure her she was coming home with me soon. she was so poorly and they were not confident that she would pull through. but she is a wee miracle and she did! they said she had meningitis and phnemonia. she is now fighting fit and back to her old self. that was the only time we have been seperated and she is now 18 months old. she comes to work with me and is my best friend. if only the vets were more aware of meningitis then our babies would not suffer so long before treatment. they were unable to tell me the cause of her condition but said it usually happens in dogs under the age of 2 years old. i cant thank the vets at the hospital enough, they were absolutely great with dileas and all fell in love with her.
best wishes to you and tiggerx
