Boxer Pal
this is my first time on boxerworld.com... my boyfriend and i brought home our first puppy together on April 30. his name is kerouac and he is the sweetest thing that i have ever laid eyes on. born march 8th, he was about 8 weeks old when we brought him home. he's been to the vet twice since we got him and just recently got his 12 week shots this past monday. thursday night, he started throwing up and i, being a new mom, started to panic. i comforted him and fed him ice cubes as he wouldn't eat or drink water. he just kept rolling over on his back so i could rub his belly. his ears were twitching, which i thought was odd, but it turns out it was just his little puppy way of communicating with us that he didn't feel well. we kept an eye on him all night and by 3 a.m., the little guy was still dry-heaving. friday morning i had a vacation day from work so i slept in and he rested in the bed with me. he was severely lethargic and wouldn't eat, drink, or take the ice cubes that i offered. i took him in for the vet to check on him. the last 24 hours have been so stressful. we got a phone call yesterday afternoon from the vet--kerouac tested positive for parvo. i visited him in the hospital after hearing the news and he was so depressed. but our little trooper made it through the night and he is being fed by an IV today. his fever and diarrhea are gone. he has only thrown up once so far today, and the doctor says that if he can go 6 hours without vomiting they will try to feed him by mouth. we might be able to bring him home tomorrow night. i thank God that i was able to be home yesterday morning to see his condition had worsened since the night before. had we left him in his crate, he might not have made it this far. please say a prayer for our little baby. we miss him and can't wait to have him home with us where he belongs. i didn't realize the parvovirus was that abrupt. just hours before he began to show symptoms, he was running around outside like the crazy little puppy that he is. we are keeping our fingers and toes crossed for little kerouac. this is my first time with a puppy and i don't have any children yet, so i'm desperate for a miracle to save my little baby.
