My Lady Tora

She came into my life 9 and half years ago but it seems as if she was only here for a moment. She was beautiful, serene and I fell in love with her the moment I first saw her as a nine week old puppy. She made a loving companion for my older male though she became the alpha girl the moment she came into our house.

This past Thursday, my beautiful girl was diagnosed with a hemangiosarcoma on her spleen. We had no idea when we took her to the Vet but an ultrasound revealed a large tumor and blood in her peritoneal cavity. We thought her lethargy, lack of appetite and short heavy breathing was due to just feeling under the weather since she had never had any medical issues and always received a yearly check-up. Unfortunately, we learned dogs with these types of tumors rarely show symptoms until the tumor has become large and often spread. There was nothing that could be done and we knew that we would have to let her go.

We hoped to wait a couple of days so we could come to terms with losing our beloved Tora and say goodbye but on Friday morning, it became apparent she was in great discomfort and had lost the desire to eat or even move from her bed. We knew it was time, held her and let her know that it was ok for her to go and be free of pain. I'm not sure how we managed but my wife and I were there with her when the Vet put her to sleep. Though her body had failed her, she left us peacefully with her spirit serene and strong. The past few days have been unbearably hard. I feel broken and empty. I miss her terribly. I've taken comfort in knowing we acted out of love, that she is free of pain and that I still have my 12 year old Boxer boy. This has been so hard but I remind myself whatever pain I feel, it was worth having Tora in my life. She loved unconditionally, watched over us and made our family complete. Rest well my beautiful girl, Lady Tora.
