My house is haunted (sorry long)

Maybe you can do some research and see if the rice in the shoe means something. Maybe in the old days that meant something.
It sounds kind of interesting. I saw a program like that once and the people would talk to the ghost by name whenever he would "show" himself. Just as long as he is not being mean I would just except it. (easy for me to say cause I'm not living with the ghost)

It sounds like who ever it is, just wants their presence known, do some research on your home, its probably had many owners.Don't let it see your fear,it can't hurt you,if you don't let it.Talk to them,tell them you know they are there & don't bother your things & you won't bother them.That you love the house as much as they do.Watch your dogs, they will let you know when they are in your presence.I read where you said on of your dogs was not sleeping with you,do the dogs ever seemed scared or growl?Do you have children,if so the children will see them before you do,it seems they are drawn to children,maybe the energy, I don't know. Hang in there,& don't let it feed off of your fear. I own an old store that was built in 1882,I know we have several there, but I have never felt threatened by them,it has cold spots, things fall off shelves,certain scents,lights blow, & some one standing behind me watching,but Iv'e never seen anyone. my boyfriend reminded me tonight of one incident I forgot to post...how I forgot this one I have no idea!
we had rented a movie from blockbuster, hellboy and we needed to return it. it was the last movie we had watched.
we have one of those dvd players where there is just one tray that slides in and out.
well we opened up the dvd player and poltergeist came out! I looked at him and he looked at me, like, real funny... well neither one of us left the room, we just looked all over for the stupid movie.
so my boyfriend goes back over to the dvd player to open it again, and I said "what do you think its gonna magically appear!"
well I kid you not, it came out!
so now we're trying to load 2 dvds one on top of the other to make it close (b/c there must be a rational explanation)
nope wouldn't close with them stacked!

you guys are creeping me out. This stuff is just too weird. luckily nothing like that ever happened to me. Just one weird thing happened, My Dad died when i was 11 yrs old. After that my brother and I gave my mother a hard time. Nothing real bad, but we were disrespectful and not very cooperative.I think it was our way of coping, but we were brats. Anyway one day I was in the kitchen when the light suddenly turned itself on and I felt a slap across my face! Dad's way of telling me to shape up!

I love hearing ghost stories too but Oh boy i do not want to be the one going through it. I have heard on shows and read that you can talk to them and let them know you won't bother them and you all can live peacefully. (No I'm not loony either!) I think it's fasinating. Try to find out the names like some other's said and find out what the rice means. It may be a friendly thing. Let us know!

My house is also "inhabited" by a ghost. It's not haunted in a bad way. My mother commited suicide in the garage here in 1980.

My dh, for whatever reason, had never seen a picture of my mom. One night he got up to go to the bathroom and on his way back to bed he went to look out the front door. My front room has 3 floor to ceiling windows and a street light is right out in front of the house and the room is always well lit at night. He saw a woman sitting in the recliner rocking back and forth. The next morning he told me about his experience and I went and got a picture out of my mom. As soon as he saw it he said, "That's who was sitting in the chair!".

Our laundry room is off of the family room. The door has to be physically shut due to the high pile of the carpeting. You can't close the door by pushing it. You have to actually grab the handle and push it shut until it latches, as it will drag on the carpet. This door will open and close on its own at will.

Everything in the house is now totally different than when I was a child and growing up. There is one area of the family room that used to have a chair that my mother would sit in all the time. Now that area has been replaced by a couch that rarely has anyone sitting in it. My last 2 cats that spent the majority of their lives here would never get near that area and one would even jump over it if he needed to get passed it. They both would constantly follow something with their eyes that we could never see.

From my bedroom I can see thru the family room into a master bathroom. This bathroom has a small window on the back wall above the tub. The moonlight usually provides much light in this room. In order for a shadow to be present someone would have to be outside on the side of the house on a ladder and waving something past the window, yet, nearly every night if I watch I can see someone walking across this area and creating that shadow.

We leave lights on at night when we leave for the girls. Oftentimes they are turned off and a different light has been turned on. Water will run for no reason and the sound from the TV, computer and stereo has been known to just stop for no apparent reason.

No harm done, but it does give you the heebie-jeebies! I usually just say,"High Mom", and go about my business. It's fun to see others reactions to the strange goings-on though!

My brothers house was haunted. The couple moved out after their young boys (4 and 6) found a gun and one shot and killed the other. The boy died in his moms arms.

Anyways they moved in with my niece who was 2 at the time. My brother heard laughter one nite and got up to put her back to bed. She was sound asleep in bed! Then he heard the giggling downstairs. Sometimes he heard the piano play.

When I stayed to sit the dogs I stayed downstairs. I was satching tv - one dog with me the other in by the fireplace. Both jumped up from a sleep and they stood at the stairway just barking and barking!

Whoa ... Now, I don't know much about ghosts. But ... Poltergeist ??? Good Lord!! I'd be scared out of my mind. I mean, if it were Bambi or something I'd feel better, but Poltergeist?? If I were a ghost and was attempting to make a point, Poltergeist would not say, "hey, let's live together and be happy."

What are you going to do ???
