My Heart Is Breaking..Spirit Will Be Leaving

Well you know what my mom said even if the lease says you cant have dogs, and you have them they cant kick you out because that would be discrimination. Maybe you could go there and have a look see? couldnt hurt?

And you know what the landlord cant be held responsibile. When the 2 pitbulls attacked the kid in my neighbourhood, the landlords didnt get in trouble for anything, the person whos house they stayed at was up for a fine but she explained they werent her dogs and she had no control over whether they were there or not because shes afraid of her daughter and they were the daughters bfs dogs.

I would just go for it, whats the worse they could do? As long as you show your respinsible with them i dont think they could say much and if they do see him there, explain to them hes just there until you can find him a home?

I really hope you do decide to keep him, I think its whats best

May be that is an option. Most landlords say that you can't have dogs or only one, or even small dogs and no bigger dogs. Just there preference, they can't stop you from bringing Spirit with you, unless you signed a lease or contract agreeing to their terms. Look into that, may be you can keep Spirit after all!!!! That would be wonderful for you and your kids. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!!!!!!!!

This may be the wrong thing to do, but I would keep him if it were me. IF it becomes a problem then perhaps you can work something out but as long as you and your kids do your very best to keep everything under control and not let them bother anyone, then maybe it will work out okay. I would just move, take him with me, and see what happens. if you can prove they don't cause harm then maybe nobody will say anything to you about it. In the meantime perhaps you can continue looking for a better place to move in the future once you get settled in this new place. I know you guys have been through so much and you are a strong person and doing what is best for your children. If it was me I'd give it a shot. No you aren't selfish, he is part of your family. I really wish you the best of luck.

I say go for it - take him with you and see what happens. The worst case scenario would be management telling you that he (or you) has to go, but at least that will afford you more time. Keep us posted ~ Cathy

I think I would try it too. Maybe at first I would take them out seperately so it doesn't draw any attention. If other neighbors have two dogs than I would go for it! Everytime I read your updates I cry so I would be so glad if there was a happy ending!

It is worth a try and if the management gets upset you could ask them to give you a month to try to find him a home. We could meet half way, or we could drive the whole way...I have always wanted to go to Canada. I would watch him for you until you could find something else! I know it is not as convenient but it is an option. I just couldn't imagine having to make that decision.

I think I'd go for it too Sharon. Many times once you're there the landlords won't say anything. My father's gf was a property manager for years & told me she said no pets but if people had them and were responsible she'd let it go. Keep us posted. BTW, when is the big move?

OMG Sharon I have been reading this and I cannot believe you have gone through this...on top of everything else !!!! I am so sorry I have been away for quite some time due to and illness.....in any case...just as offered at Christmas....if your family needs anything.....that includes the dogs....please call me and I will do anything to help...how is Spirit around other dogs in general.....I have 3....but I would be willing to keep him for you until you get back on your feet....meaning a new home or anything !!!!

My goodness it feels just like yesterday you where bringing him home.....

LAURIE!! Hey girl..I was wondering where you have been! Hope all is well! Thank you so much for your generous offer! I will definately keep you in mind! However, so far Spirit has not been very good with any other dog other than Xena. I am pretty sute I know why he is this way, and that will be taken care of soon. Since being on our own, money has been tight, but we manage pretty good. My teenager and I discussed having Spirit neutered (one of the BIGGEST priorities right now), and now that he has started a new p/t job, he has offered to pay 1/2 the cost, God bless him!! :D Hopefully, that and some more socialization training, will help to calm Spirit's dominance/aggression issues...which in turn will help me to breathe easier in the new place!
Thank you all for the support and understanding. Your kind words have helped me through this whole ordeal...and Elyse...yes, my head is spinning! I pray that this is the right decision, and that it works out for us. It feels right to me. And like I said, it may be that Spirit is destined (or determined!) to keep us forever!
