My 7 Month old puppy is about 56 lbs. and has develop a limp in her right hind leg. The vet told me this may be a growing pain which is some cases will develop when a puppy is growing. I was wondering if any of you may have seen this condition in your puppies. The vet also indicated he did not think it was hipp dysplasia and that she might be to young to get a clear x-ray on her. I took her in with this same problem a month ago and they gave me some antibiotic which clear it up for a little while, but the limp came back. when I took her a month ago she was 46 lbs. PLEASE help any insight would be greatly appreciated.

It definitely could be growing pains. As long as your vet has ruled out an injury, see if they will give you some anti-inflammatories.

Hi there,

I'm going through the same thing with my 9 month old girl now...I'll relate to you my story and see if it helps. She started limping about 2 1/2 weeks ago on her back hind leg (after a trip to the dog park) and it got better after about a week, so we went back to the dog park and she was okay for a few days. She started limping again while we were at the dog park...she likes to play pretty rough - running full speed, wrestling, jumping other dogs, etc. So I took her to the vet the next day and she sedated her, took x-rays and manipulated both of her knees. At first, the vet suspected Riley's cruciate ligament as the drawer movement in the injured leg was lax, but after sedation the vet found that both knees had laxity in the drawer movement. The vet prescribed a week's worth of Rimadyl (anti-inflammatory) and 2 weeks of rest. We finished the prescription of Rimadyl yesterday and Riley's limp has gotten MUCH better (not really noticeable) but she still isn't putting 100% of her weight on it yet. I called an orthovet today and scheduled an appointment for Wednesday to really see what's going on as the laxity in both knees isn't normal.

I am really hoping that Riley won't need surgery of any kind! I don't know if this helps you at all with your pup...they are still babies and it is heart-breaking to have serious issues with their health!! I hope that your baby is okay...i would recommend taking her for a 2nd opinion just in case her limp turns out to be more serious.

Please keep me updated as to your pup's progress...good luck!

Thanks for the insight. She is still limping and now it's hard to tell if it is her foot or her leg. I checked her paw to make sure there were no cut and nothings there. When the vet examined her, he also checked her foot. So I guess I will continue w/ the anti-inflamatory (if that how you spell it) and see what happens.

Thanks

p.s. I'm new to this site so I will get some pix of her uploaded soon. I thinks she the best looking boxer ever, but that what ever boxer owner thinks.
