Just wanted to share something sweet with you all...last night Co-Co was sleeping on the sofa next to me and she was tired after a play day with her Boxer boyfriend Taz...she was in a deep sleep when I noticed her mouth moving like she was still nursing...at first I was like na...but the more she did it I realized that was sucking like how babies do when they sleep!!! I fell more in love with my girl, she is soo sweet and I think that was so cute how she still dreams that she is a baby. Have any of your puppies done this and will they grow out of it or is it normal? Cola is almost 11 months now...I just chalked it up to her being happy and sweet dreams of some of the best times and comforting times in her little life...:p

My boxer boy has never done that, but my first dog, an english bulldog, used to nurse on his toys. He had this stuffed teady bear he played with when he was little and when he got tired he would settle down with the teddy bear and suckle on its feet. I thought it was hillarious. He stopped doing it when he was almost a year old.

Those silly babies :D

My Hook does this all the time...I wake up in the middle of the night to him doing this...and it is sooo sweet!

My baby is guilty too. Ozzy is a little over 4 months and has done this ever since we brought him home. He dosen't do it as much as he used to, but it seems like when he's in a deep sleep he dreams more often, and that's where the suckling comes in. I think it is the cutest thing ever. See they will always be babies at heart (i'm sure it has nothing to do with how their skin mommies treat them)

:D That is so cute, my boxer (named Knox) runs in his sleep. It is so cute because he will be sleeping on the floor and then his legs will start moving like he is running. There are times when not only does he look like he is running but he make little bark noises. I love to watch him sleep. I wonder what he is dreaming about.

Tucker still suckles in his sleep too (at almost 1 year ;) ). When he was a tiny little puppy, the breeder used to let him suck on her earlobes. I thought it was sweet, so I let him do it to me too. Every now and then, I guess when he's feeling particularly cuddly, he'll still suck on my earlobe.

Kaia on the other hand has never done it. Isn't funny how 2 dogs can be sooo alike and sooo different at the same time?

Jackie

Boxer Buddy
Our previous boxer Benson used to do the same thing until he was quite large. One day he was about 4 months old, he "stole" a dummy from a baby. Well he kept that dummy intact for months. He used to suck on it when he was tired, and would often fall asleep with it in his mouth!
