My First Taste of Boxer

Or real taste if you want to be picky! I have mostly seen the Boxer pups in the pet stores where I just want to haul them out of the stupid tanks they are in... :mad:

Anyway, I want to quit my job working in the airport. I detest it and want to pursue my dream of working with animals. There were job postings listed for Little Shelter, a non profit, no kill shelter not too far from me. Well... I went filled out an application and took a tour of the place. Got about halfway through where the dogs were and there he was.....

A 2-3 year old classic fawn. I changed directions midstep and went over to where I was treated to not only a wiggle but a kidney bean AND a small woo woo!!!! I nearly keeled over on the spot! I got to spend some time with him as he just happened to need to be taken out to the big play area. I think the woman might have seen my expression.

I can only say that without one, I was Boxer crazy... and now... Im OBSESSED! lovicon

Aw so sweet. The reason my fiancee and I decided to get a boxer was because he fell in love with one at the animal shelter near us. He took this boxer out and played with her for like 10 minutes and said "Jill we're getting a boxer!" I was so psyched! We would have gone home with that one but we knew we we're going on vacation a few days after and knew it wouldn't be fair to bring her home and then leave her right away.

Now we're hooked and'll never own another breed! :D

I wish I could adopt him! Where I'm living right now doesnt allow dogs. The husband and I are waiting for his transfer to go through. He works for Southwest Airlines and is trying to get into the Raleigh-Durham International Airport. The living is much less expensive down there, and he would still get a NY salary. We 've already found a large 1500 sq foot apartment we're going to try for when we head down there. First on the agenda after settling in? Finding a breeder (if I havent by then as Im searching) and getting ready for baby! Fur-baby that is!

I couldnt stop thinking about this boy all day. I chattered like a madwoman about him when i got home. Now hubs wants to take a trip to look at him. I showed him the picture on the webpage and he loves the face. That woo woo got me... then he started making this adorable low noise in his throat that i can only describe as like an excited screamish type thing. He was just tickled that there was somebody coming to see him! I shouldnt feel special because he did it to somebody after I was down farther, and the woman i was with says he does it to workers as well because he loves people but... I did feel special haha!

I uploaded his picture and just had to post it. If I work there, Id love to see this guy get a great home!

Oh what a SWEET expression he has lovicon Too bad you can't take him home. At least he is in a no-kill shelter. I hope he finds a new family soon!

he is beautiful..i adopted spanky out of a rescue in long island i joke about the ride but it was worth every minute.

Well, I found out yesterday why Quincy might still be at that shelter. He is not a fan of strange men, especially those with beards.

I brought Justin along with me to take a look at the place as I had my interview there (cross your fingers!) and of course had to show him Quincy. As I got closer to his pen he did a spring straight up into the air. I got a very close up view of his toenails. Then he saw Justin. He barked like mad and ran to the door between the kennel and the outside run. He was half in and half out barking like mad. I made Justin go back down the aisle and he came back out and was back to sweet, lovable, mush within minutes.

I asked about that, and that is one reason they are trying to make his caretakers be mostly the men there, to show him not all strange men are bad. They are working hard, but Quincy hates men until he knows them. They think he was abused by a bearded man as he came from a neglect/abuse situation. Makes me sad. :(
