A 100 pound male is out of standard (way out). Right there is a reason not to breed to him. Another is, that as people breed these dogs bigger (remember the standard says the boxer is a *medium* size dog), the bigger heavier bodies mean more hip dysplasia. Right now, it's not a big problem in the breed, but with it's rising popularity, and people wanting *big* dogs and not knowing what the standards or tests are, I'll guarantee we will be seeing more of it.
All in all, the tests you and the stud owner need to do will easily run you $1000 or more. Plus, please don't go by what a vet tells you of the *quality* of your dogs. *ALL* vets says their customers dogs are beautiful, etc. That may be true in the general sense, but unless that vet is intimately accainted with the boxer standard (as in being a breeder/show), then they don't know what a correct boxer that fits the standard looks like.

I had previously stated that I had over exagerated my dads boxers size. Hes 63 pounds. Ive decided against breeding with him anyway though. ;) I didnt need my vet to tell me that my dog was good looking. Just look at her pics. Shes a sweet pea. I know what you mean about the size though. I feel fortunate. Summer only weights 43 pounds which makes her less prone to have problems with her hips. Shes the perfect size for me.

Just an FYI: the size of the boxer does not fully determine whether the dog will have Hip Displaysia or not. It is the breeding. I can tell you from experience. At 10 MONTHS subi was diagnosed with SEVERE hip displaysia, she was 39 pounds.

And when we go to the vet for checks or whatever i CRINGE when i see her gaining weight. I took her to the vet a month ago and she was 45 pounds, i about cried. Not because i dont want my baby to be big, but because if she gets big the more weight on her hips. Luckily the vet said that she is filling in, NOT getting fat.

Believe me though, when you have a dog with HD you worry about EVERYTHING and you are always constantly consumed with a fear of what will happen later in her life. Subi gets a way with A LOT but it is because pat and i feel so bad for her. I feel like i am constantly worrying about her and the slightest thing. IT SUCKS!!! :(

But this is the reason i am a HUGE advocate of spaying and neutering and NOT breeding dogs. If not for Subi i wouldnt know or be the way i am i dont think.

I am SOOOO very proud of you for deciding not to breed. There are so many dogs out there that need good homes, trust me i am in rescue. if you want another dog, rescue, you will NEVER regret your decision :)

BTW: Bailey is 1yr and 4 months and she is 51 pounds
Subi is 1 yr and 6 months and she is 45 pounds (she is really small though)

The standard is 55/65 for a female and 65/75 for a male (i think)

Dont worry little summer will grow, they dont mature till they are three, and rescue told me that bailey will probably start feeling in a little after 2 but they think she will be about 60.

they are like people, late bloomers :D

oops also: i feed them California Natural, but i think i am going to start mixing in either Nutro Natural ( i know i know, but they like it) or Wellnesss or Solid Gold with the California Natural.

..

My Tazo is 10 months and is 55 lbs. Within the past two months he's been picking up aprox. 8-9 lbs. a month...so he's steady growing. His mother is 67 and dad is 77lbs. so the vet said he may max out at around 70lbs...who knows. But your baby seems to be right on target, and I bet your vet would a gree.:p

I am so sorry to hear about the hip dysplasia your dog suffers from. I guess it just varys in genes. Summer has been growing. When I first posted he only weighed 35 pounds. Now shes 43 pounds. I got her a new halloween hat. (she doesnt like it very much but I couldnt resist.) Shes a cutie. Take a look in the gallery where ive posted a pic. Thanks to you all!

my furkids are about 10 1/2 months, and the girls are between 55-60 and Max is about 60-65.

My question is how TALL should they be, and will they get much taller than they are when they are 1 yr old????

Dakota is shorter than the other two it seems, and they are all pretty short. Max is really getting broad.

What do you think?

Boxer Insane
I have 2 furkids and they are about 40-45lbs each. I get told repeatedly that they look like mini-boxers (there is no such thing  ). It also drives me crazy. I love my girls and I wouldn't change them for the world. Also as far as breeding my boxers I chose not to. My old vet told me if I wasn't going to breed (my first girl Britnee) then I needed to get her fixed by the time she was 1 year (for health reasons) or before the first heat. I have heard boxers have higher incidences of breast, ovarian and uterine cancer. I had my girls on Iams Lamb and Rice since I got them. I have no complaints about Iams food. They are now on prescription diet due to bladder stones. We know everyone in Boxerworld loves their Boxers (or they wouldn't be here!). We each know what is best for our furkids, and whatever you do for them is the right thing in your own mind. I don't mean this in anyway to be sarcastic (I don't want to offend anyone) this is just my opinion!:D Good luck in whatever you decide for your Boxer, in your heart you know it is the right thing.

Mom to 2 furkids Britnee (fawn with black mask with cropped ears born 12-24-94). Baylee (brindle with natural ears born 1-1-96)
Also Psycho Stripes kitty (born 1-29-02) and Joey the bunny with a 'tude born??

3 skinkids Kelsey 7, Jake 5, Kayla 2kingicon
