My Dogs Attacked Last Night by a Pitbull

I had all three on a leash, leaving the park after playing. Skye had his ball-y in his mouth. My friend had her two--10 year old male cancer survivor and a 7 mos old female recovering from her spay. I looked up to see two black dogs running off leash at us--I yelled that my dogs are not dog-friendly (that usually gets the people running). NOTHING--they just stood there!! I dropped Boo's leash (she's 7 and easy to handle) and started backing away with Skye (male) and Scarlett, my female puppy. The dog (which I recognized as a pitbull male) kept coming at Skye and grabbed at his neck and got his shoulder. Boo, jumped in and got between them and "boxed" him off of Skye. The owner finally got there and just stood there like an idiot. Finally my friend screamed at her to put him on leash and she snapped out of it. The dog only had a pinch collar and an extender leash (for an 80lb dog?).

I looked up from my dogs and the people were GONE. No--"how are they" NOTHING! I had to take them to the vets--Skye was bloody and shocky. $700 later, poor Skye is not the same, and Boo (our hero) has a torn ear.

Oh how horrible! I'm so sorry that happened. Can you report them? I know you don't know them, but maybe if you described the dogs? I think I'd be on the lookout for them and if they show up again, they would be hearing from me, and probably the police. I'd file a "vicious dog" report or something. It makes me mad just reading your post. Are people truely that stupid??? :confused:

that is so sad I hope they get better soon I would definitely report it as this could have happened before and they may know who the dogs belong to . sad when you see irresponsible pet owners like that . I like pitbulls but owners need to be able to handle them with proper training . A few weeks ago my boxer was attacked by a small dog bit her on the back leg . the girl just took off with her dog , lucky it wasn't to bad but still .

So sorry your babies had to go through that. I'd do everything possible to try and report them, shows lack of character in the owner/handler that they didn't stick around, this person is not going to learn their lesson without a "little help" from the authorities IMO. Sending healing vibes to your babies.

Classic example of idiots who should not own pit bulls. I am so sorry this happened. Hopefully everyone is on their way to recovery.

Yikes! How are Skye and Boo doing? (and the other 3 dogs). I hear there is this quote.."there are no bad dogs, just bad owners" Anyone know who said this? Barbara Woodhouse maybe? This is a classic example of an idiot(an irresponsible one at that) that should not own a pitbull, or any dog. I would report it as well; I bet something like this has happened before. Next time it could be another dog or a small child!!

Thanks for the support. Skye and Boo are really out of it today--I thought it was the anti-inflammatories or the antibiotics, but I think they might just have a little post traumatic thing going on. Scarlett is mothering the both of them. She keeps loitering around and licking at their wounds.

My friend's two boxers (their best pack-mates) are a little rattled. She said the puppy went to sleep immediately and the 10 year old woo-woo'd for a while afterwards--he's really attached to Skye.

Another friend (another boxer owner :D) who may know the people is currently out of town, but he's going to get the address. Animal Control is coming out tomorrow to take a report.

Now my dogs are not saints by any means, had a few "altercations" but they have NEVER bitten another dog.

That's a pretty riduculous statement. Just because a dog goes after another dog doesn't not mean that a child would be next.

OMG!!!! I am so sorry for you and your poor babies! I know how your heart must be so sad that they had to be innocently dragged into a situation so hurtful...
How are they doing...I am sure you are lavishing them with all the special attention you can....

Oh my goodness. You must have gotten quite a fright!! Doesn't that just make you so mad when people let their dogs run off lead like that. I get so mad. It's the owners who are so irresponsible. Your dogs were lucky that it didn't turn out worse. On top of that you end up with a hefty vet bill. I hope your babies are not too traumatized by all of this and they get better real soon.
