My Dogs Attacked Last Night by a Pitbull

That's a pretty riduculous statement. Just because a dog goes after another dog doesn't not mean that a child would be next.

What I meant was the owner showed a lack of control over the dog. I know that just because a dog shows dog aggression does not mean he will show aggression to a human. What worries me is this dog was not leashed and not in control, and some small kids do not know how to approach dogs correctly. This could result in an injury.

I totally agree. I have a few dogs that arent always freindly to other dogs but that doesnt relate to how they are with people. Its not resonable to jump to these extremes.

I am sorry for that you had to go through this. I would definitely try to find the people and get them to pay the vet bills. What total idiots!

The dog was definitely not after me, but let me tell you, it was totally fixated on killing/maiming Skye. I think if I was able to grab it, it would have just fought back. There was a guy with two little fluffy dogs a ways behind us, I think that it was better Skye than them, they would have been killed, easily.

It's totally different when a pitbull attacks, no barking, no growling, no warnings just focused on going for the neck. Usually, when an aggressive dog approaches they stop and assess the situation, but this one went straight for my guy.

1st off I just noticed all my typos in my last post...LOL! Anyway... this is my worst fear. I am totally paranoid about running into aggressive off leash dogs when I walk my guys. I can totally sympathize with you...I am sure your 1st instinct was to reach in to break it up but that could have been so tragic. I am glad you all were able to walk away.

That is so tragic. My last dog (dalmation) was killed by the pitbull that lived next door. He dug under the fence and mauled him. I would file a police report for sure. Don't know if you could monitor the park and see if they come back then call the police regarding dogs off of a leash. Most cities have leash laws and you might be able to (at least) call them in on that.

I have this problem at the minute. We have a pitbull living next door he is left all day and night in the garden on his own. He barks non stop 24/7 the owners are out most of the time. If Cooper and Kymba are in the garden playing he goes mental jumping up the fence and growling at them we have had to block the top part of the fence off as he nearly got over going crazy at Kymba, which scared her so much she wouldn't go out in the garden near his side. We never leave them outside without one of us now as i know he will attack them if he gets in the garden. The owners just don't seem to care what the dog does. They never walk him, the owners have cut a hole in the farmers fence and they throw the dog in a field with the cows so he has something to chase when it goes dark.
Thank god we don't own this house and we are moving in a few months.
I really hope you dogs are feeling better soon and you can track the owners down and this dog doesn't get the opportuntiy to attack another persons pet.

Just met with Animal Control. It takes 3 dog attacks to be designated a "dangerous dog". They want us present to id the dogs--no problem with that.

More than a dangerous dog tag they should make a stupid human owner tag. This owner should not be aloud to have any dog let alone a pit that needs a strong leader.

Oh how horrible! I am so sorry, and hope they are better soon! I take my Maggie for short walks every day as she is 7 months the end of this month, just around a rather large city block, but I have considered starting to take her down to a park which is a little longer of a walk. This really makes me think twice about going to the park. I do not know if I would be able to handle this kind of situation if it ever came up! I sure hope that they recover from this attack! And if these dogs are registered it should not be too hard to find out who they belong too!
