Hello! I'm just looking for suggestions/advice from anyone who has experience with seizures.
My boy Duke is 10, and until Friday, he was totally active and healthy. He had a few what I would consider minor seizures Friday (he would just stand there opening and closing his mouth, and producing a lot of saliva). He had 3 of those Friday and I got him to the vet that afternoon. The vet did a blood test that turned out fine. She couldn't really give me any answers as to what caused this very sudden change. She suggested waiting a day and seeing what happened and told me about puting him on Phenobarbitol if he has more seizures. Well, on the way out to my car, he had a BIG seizure, he fell to the ground and started convulsing and foaming at the mouth. They took him back in and gave him some rectal valium (at around 6:30 p.m.) and sent me home with more to give in case he had any more seizures.
He didn't have any others overnight and I thought we were maybe out of woods, but then he had one Saturday morning. I was gone for a few hours, so I didn't witness it, but when I got home, he was calm enough that I decided I didn't need to give him the valium. He made it until midnight, then had another. I called his vet and she said to give him 4cc of valium (rectally), so I did. The thing that is really worrying me right now is that he lost the use of his back legs after the seizure, and now it's 4:45 a.m. and he still can't use them (they're like rubber).
He has never had any history of seizures, and this is shocking to me that this came on so suddenly. I can't think of anything toxic that he might have gotten into, but I'd like to think that it is something like that as opposed to epilepsy, since it came on so suddenly.
I've been researching online all night about this and have learned a lot from these discussion boards and other sites, but I haven't been able to find anything about this paralysis lasting so long. Does anyone have any information they could share with me. I'd appreciate any help! Thanks in advance!
