Sharon...I too have no advice to offer, just my sympathies for Jessica! When I was young I suffered with bouts of Swimmers ear, each ear...separate occasions, and then cysts in ear ear...at separate times also. So I can relate to how she feels. Hope you can get everything cleared up in short order, and I will pray there's no hearing loss...let's just hope her ears are plugged up. My mom also had to take me in after all of that and have my ears flushed...YUCK! But it was an amazing difference. Let us know how things are going.

Ok..so her ears are totally plugged!! I tried the mineral oil again and the oil just sits at the entrance of the eardrum. Her appt. with the ENT is not until Thursday, and that can't get here fast enough! She still has pain in both ears and today has a slight fever. She woke up this morning talking like she had a marble in her throat. Geesh...poor kid! :( If it gets worse I'll have to run her over to the hospital and in this town that's all that's opened on Sunday and it will easily be a 5hr wait at the least! I hate going there too because 9 times out of 10 you will pick up a virus from all the other sick people there!

I'm betting on fluid build up behind her ear drums. Not uncommon after infection. Does she suffer from allergies? People who do sometimes tend to get fluid build up easier. It should get better, but now with her running a temp the infection may be coming back. The fluid makes a good breeding ground for infection(think a puddle of still water, becoming stagnant)
Any way I think it will go away and she'll be fine. If not the worst case scenario would be tubes in her ears to help things drain. Keep us posted

Has she ever had any previous surgery on them? I lost hearing due to the fact that I had an operation as a child to put tubes in my ears and the doctor botched it. Turns out he gave me a hole in my eardrum and two broken bones in my ear. Unfortunately they are the bones that hold open the drainage from my ear and nose. I have to say that after having them suctioned and flushed out they feel much better but it was a pretty painful procedure :(

Christa...nope...she has never had surgery on her ears, or for anything for that matter! She has always suffered from ear infections accompanied by high fevers since the age of 1. I was curious about the hearing test on Thursday and how this will be done since her ears seem plugged and the test will obviously not be accurate, so I called the doctors office. They informed me that if her ears are plugged she will need an appt. to have them flushed, and THEN have the hearing test in the sound booth! Ummm...the reason why I wanted this appt. was because her ears seem plugged and she cannot hear!! Geesh!! So I was told to mention it to the technician before the test and they will check her ears first to determine if they need to be cleaned first! You would think that that would be standard protocol, but I guess not! Everything seems to be a$$ backwards these days with doctors...it's like you need to KNOW all this stuff yourself!! They get paid the big buck$ to know this stuff...don't they? Oh well! Thanks Christa for your concern. :)

Hi Sharon! Here we go again!!!
My sister is a Speech pathologist and says never put q-tips into your ear! So what we use to clean our ears is peroxide. Squeeze som into the ear while lying down and let it bubble for about 5 minutes. then flip to drain and do the other. Repeat if necessary. It works really good! Sending vibes your way!
