I am so sorry to hear about your news and I completely understand your heavy heart about this. We just lost Porter two days ago and I am consumed with his loss.
Whether they are still with us or have left us, we always worry when we love our Boxer as deeply as we do.

When Porter had surgery two months ago, we supported him with acupuncture and herbs and he came through with flying colors. I had just started doing some support with supplements and nutrition for his post-op/post-cancer and he was taken by bloat.

If you have any faith in alternative care, it could not hurt to try it for Titus.

So far Titus is doing good although I'm very concerned with him dripping quite a bit of blood with his urine. It used to be very red (fresh blood) but now it looks like its very brown in color.
I have an appointment with oncologist this coming Wednesday (July 22nd) to get a second opinion and hope for good news!

Lissa, I'm very sorry about Porter. I just hope I'm as strong as you and many others when that time comes :(

the best thing you can do is keep researching and gathering information. i have been taught many lessons by porter and one of them is that you need to be your dog's advocate. he depends on you completely and in a time of crisis, it is crtitical that you exhaust all means that you can, as best you can with the information you have, to help your baby. i am learning about not beating myself up on the woulds, the coulds, and the shoulds. you do the best you can with the information and means that you have at the time. he knows that you love him and he is lucky that you love him as much as you do!

He is doing okay so far except for the dripping reddish/brown urine throughout the day. He doesn't seem bothered by it much though.
My appointment with oncologist is this coming Wednesday. I'm really nervous since I feel like this maybe our last hope for him to overcome it if surgery is possible. Thank you for helping me through this. It really means so much! I will definitely post what happens Wednesday.

I was hoping for some good news today and almost did. However, the happy feeling was cut short when they took a second look...

When the bladder was full, using the ultrasound - looked like the mass (tumor) was in the bladder. So, they told me they could definitely do surgery, take most if not all of it out, do chemotherapy and the chances are good for him to beat this thing... I was flying on high clouds I was so happy! Well, there was few things that didn't fit the profile of this tumor and my dog so they decided to redo the ultrasound when the bladder was empty. Here's where things took an ugly turn!!!
It turns out that the positioning of the tumor is in such an area that when the bladder is full, it looks like it's inside it however, when the bladder got empty, they could see that it's pressing against the bladder walls and it's completely outside of the bladder. It's in a place where it's restricting the flow of urine and also VERY hard to operate (they would probably have to break his pelvic bone to get to it). Based on what they found, they are suspecting vascular tumor (hemangiosarcoma) which has a 85% chance of spreading and it's very aggressive. Because there is blood in his urine, they think it's already done some extensive damage to the bladder. All his other organs look okay at this point (or at least to the naked eye on ultrasound).

So, I have an appointment this Friday for scope. They will go in to see if they can tell what's causing the blood in his urine and maybe get a sample of the tumor cells if it's possible and safe enough. Then, we'll discuss the next step. At this point, it doesn't look good at all no matter what. :( I'm very sad since I was hoping for some good news. Instead, it's worse then originally thought! If it is in fact what they suspect and nothing can be done, my boy may only have few weeks left :( I can't even think about it I'm so crushed by all this...

I am so sorry about Titus' recent news. The one thing I can hope for you is what we had with Porter: they saw a tumor in Porter's stomach when they did the ultrasound and due the position of it, it looked very grim going in to the surgery. They were anticpating a "peak and shriek" of sorts which meant open him up and find there was nothing they could do but take a biopsy and determine what kind of cancer it was and then close him up without any heroic efforts. The miracle came when they called after the surgery and the position was not as difficult as they had anticpated from the u/s and the surgery was completely successful. I am praying that either due to further testing or an eventual surgery, that the outcome will be better than expected.

In the meantime, be as calm as you can with him and ensure him (and yourself) that all will be okay, even if that is the most difficult and unimaginable concept for you. Titus is depending on your strength.
