My boy has bladder cancer (TCC)...

My younger 6 year old boxer (Titus) was diagnosed with bladder cancer (TCC) on Monday (7/13/2009). He's always been a healthy boy!

About 3 weeks ago, he started leaving drops of urine around the house especially when he got excited. Couple days later, I noticed the urine had blood in it. The vet diagnosed it as urinary track infection (UTI) and gave him antibiotics. That really didn't help. They took a urine sample and ran some tests including culture. Nothing showed up. Then, they did some x-rays, ultrasound and blood work. The ultrasound showed a big tumor in his bladder in a place where they can't operate on. :(

He has no symptoms other then blood in urine and the dripping issue. I also noticed that when he lifts his leg up to pee, sometimes not much (or nothing) comes out. It doesn't seem painful to him and he acts completely normal.

He still has his appetite and energy...
Unfortunately, the vet told me there is nothing they can do for him. His prognosis is a month to a year :(
They put him on Piroxicam (10mg, once a day) to hopefully shrink and/or slow down the growth of the tumor. Hopefully, the tumor will not spread or gets too big (which it already is big). If it gets too big, it will block the path from kidneys and it will destroy them. I also found that many people use Graviola and low carb diet which is suppose to help. So I already ordered some Graviola and I'm slowly changing and adjusting his diet.

I'm not sure what I'm suppose to do other then make him as comfortable, happy and spoiled for as long as possible... I can't even think about when the time comes to say goodbye! I haven't slept or eaten much since Monday. It's always on my mind and I'm sick to my stomach 24/7!
I'm also worried about Zeus (my other boxer) and how he will deal with this since they grew up together and have been inseparable. It scares me to death!
Any advice on what else I can do to help Titus? Does anyone have any experience with this nasty cancer or the meds that he's taking?

Thanks so much for any help or advice!

Hi,

I am so sorry your dealing with this. Ironically my Boxer was diagnosed with Cancer on MOnday also so I fully understand when you say you cant sleep and eat. I am only just managing to function but did manage to get myself to work.

Like you, I am totally devestated and just cry at the drop of a hat.

I too am worried about my other boy as he has Aortic Stenosis and he has never been seperated from Blayz. I am scared to death of his reaction to her passing when it happens.

But you know, I read a post on here the other night (ive been researching, researching, researching) and this person said they realised they were spending so much time on the computer trying to find answers and not spending precious time with their baby.

As soon as I read that I got out of my chair and went and cuddled up to my sweet girl.

I truly feel your pain and send lots of love to you right now. I cant say I hope it gets better, because we both know thats not going to happen, but your in my heart and will be in my prayers.

Im so sorry. Have you thought about getting a second opinion? An oncologist or a board certified surgeon may have a different opinion on whether or not you could operate.

I am so sorry. I will be keeping Titus and you in my thoughts and prayers. Tyson is also sending some healing vibes along with some sloppy kisses.

Please see an oncologist for a second opinion. We too are dealing with this horrible disease. Remember he doesn't know that he has cancer. Keep him happy and loved no matter what. Your other baby will be there to get you thru. We'll keep you in our thoughts and prayers.

I'm very sorry you have to go through this as well. I keep hoping it's a nightmare and I'll wake up! I too have a hard time at work. I can't concentrate and all I want to do is go home so I can spend more time with my boys! I just keep saying to myself that I need to stay strong but it's hard to do. My prayers go out to you...

I am in the process of looking for an oncologist in my area to get a second opinion. At this point, I'm willing to try anything that can help or save my boy! I am sorry you're going through the same thing. It is a horrible thing to go through and I'm finding out that so many of us are in a similar situation :(

Thank you EVERYONE for the warm thoughts and prayers. It means a world to me and helps me get through these hard times. I will take your advice and get a second opinion and hope for the best.

Thank you sooooo much!!!
