Well, I wouldn't get so excited about your puppy not lifting his leg if it's grass stains you are worried about. I have 6 nice boxwoods that I have recently had to put a little fence around ( we just moved to this house) because where he peeded, he killed the green and there is brown! Trees can take it but some bushes can't and will turn brown. He also goes in my flower patch, my husband says as long as he stays away from the vegetable garden it's fine!!! :D I really don't mind, I guess if I was a perfectionist I would but I think if someone told me where I could and couldn't go to the bathroom I'd be a little upset, of course I'm a push over for such a sweet, talky, fur baby! lovicon

When I took my first dog to obedience school the trainer said to teach your dog not to lift his leg because it keeps the dog from peeing where he shouldn't ie. someone's leg or car tire. My Shepherd never lifted his leg his whole life. When he was younger he lifted it a couple times and we put it back down and he learned quickly to just squat.

My boy boxer is a year and a half old and has only recently started to lift his leg....but squatting still seems to be his preferred method. Usually he just won't stand still long enough to finish because he's afriad he might miss out on some playtime - so he has even been known to pee and walk at the same time - yucko!:)

We were really concerned about our boxer not lifting his leg when he was younger. Now he is three and lifts his leg on everything!!! It is hilarious. Our morning walk consists of....seeing a hydrant...lift leg. Tree...lift leg. Blade of grass....lift leg. By the end of his walk, he has lifted his leg so many times that nothing comes out. Also, sometimes if it is windy, he will lift his leg and lose his balance. It's embarrasing, but he's my boy!
