Hi All,
I have posted here before regarding my boxer's cardiomyopothy, and he has fooled everyone and is still here 10 months after his diagnosis, (no meds) !
But now we are having other old man issues... He turned 11 in December, and has been drinking tons of water , and urinating while walking in the house... Took him to the vets, thinking it was a uti, but she tested everything and he was fine... So we figure it is just old age and can't control his sphycter muscles anymore. Ok, we can deal with that... But this morning I found him on our new sofa sleeping (he knows he is not allowed on that particular sofa), so I gently scolded him and we went on with our morning. Later , I see that where he usually sleeps (a futon sofa in the computer room) there is a big wet spot. I can tell by the spot that he must of done this in his sleep...Anyone know of anything that I can do to help him? I know this is a part of his old age, but my husband is going to have a fit, if Doc starts urinating on everything! Please help, I know by all the signs that his old age is catching up with him and we might not have Doc much longer, and the thought of losing him is horrible... I just want his last possible year with us to be one of love and dignity, that the boxer breed so deserves...He is his usual lovey and funny self otherwise...Any suggestions as to what others have gone thru or done with their elderly boxers?
Thanks so much for you advice and help...

Just a quick thought (will think a little more deeply on possible causes later ;)) but incontinence problems can often be helped by adding a couple of teaspoons of fresh chopped parsley to his food each day. I don't know why that helps, but in a great many cases it does. Certainly worth a try anyway :)

There are, of course, meds that can help with incontinence. I'd try the natural way first though, especially with a senior.

Has your vet ruled out cushing's, diabetes, or stones? In the interim, you may want to use doggy diapers when he is in the house to prevent accidents. Only wish I had a pat answer for you. Good luck, and do keep us posted ~ Cathy

Thank you for your posts, I will go buy some parsley today, and the doggie diapers are an idea, although I don't know that he will wear those, lol...
And yes the doctor did rule out any other diseases like cushings... She seems to think that it could be that his sphyncter (sp?) muscle is weakening or doesnt work. or a possible brain tumor... But I am not going to do anymore testing on him...It stresses him out too much. I put a phone call into the vets this morning, to see if she has any ideas...
Thanks again!

Urine incontinence

I don't know if they can give him hormone shots but my spayed elderly female started leaking urine at about 12yrs. and the vet gave her a hormone shot.It stopped after one week-no more leaking for a year and I would get her another shot.I don't know if they can give it to a male or not but this sure worked for my Journey!

Urinary Problems

Please Take Him To The Vet, My 8 Yr Old Male Had Been Having Some Accidents, In The House While We Were Gone Most Of Th Etime, And His Urine Was Very Concentrated...to Be Honest I Thought He Was Mad At Times When We Would Leave Him, But One Day He Simply Couldn't Go At All, He Had Stones, 18, And They Had Irritated His Bladder Lining And This Caused The Accidents He Had..he Was Forced To Have Emergency Surgery When A Stone Was Blocked And He Was Unable To Go At All....
After The Surgery He Had Some Accidents, Especially When He Was Sleeping Or Getting Up, And This Was Due To Some Underlying Infection And Some Problems With Surgery...mainly The Infection Caused The Problems..and He Had Alot For A While....this Is Very Serious In Males They Have No Way To Pass Any Type Of Stones And They Are Very Painful....and Can Cause Death At Some Point. My Boy Is Now Better From All That But It Has Taken Almost 3 Full Months... My Thoughts Are With Him, Get Well Soon
